Question about Intel Motherboard

1 Answer

Mainboard shutdown i pluged my laptop over the night, only to turn it on the next day but it will not come on. it only indicated that the battery was charging with the batt charging indicator led on when it was pluged. i checked the adapter and the wall socket every thing seemed ok. i opened the my laptop and after a series of random testings using a small digital meter on the components i found one small smd(surface mounting device)fuse on the board dead. i bridged it with a tiny wire and pluged it again hoping that was the only thing wrong and pluged it again. but this time the batt charging led did'nt lit on and the led on the adapter blinked. i felt it was a back voltage something definately was stoping the current from flowing therby returning voltage to the supply adapter.i removed the wire and replaced the dead fuse things went back to how they were before i had my hands on it. then i thought that fuse was not only component dead onthat board. before now i had done little troubleshootings like removing the cpu, changing the RAM making sure it was'nt a hardware thingy. finally i resorted to change the mainboard. but i thought it a nice idea if i could fix it ratherthan buying another of those expensive mainboards. this morning i browsing and found you guys could be of great help. what do i do next?

    hi saigua,

    thanks for ur fast responce.

it won't come on even with the power connected. rather it only indicated battery charging.

thank i get ur advise never trying things at ramdom again. i meant i was checking for only fuses on the mainboard as they were likely to be the most venulrable to current.

Never do that to fuses, search the web (especially the site of your laptop's maker) for common cures to your situation, and failing diagnosis recommending a particular cure, don't do stuff at random.  That sort of thing sort of sounds like a battery issue; won't the thing come on with no battery, but the power power connected?

Put acer aspire 5734z to sleep mode and wont turn on next day

First thing to try:

Remove your battery and charger, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds. Plug the laptop into mains ONLY leaving the battery out. Try powering it up.

If the laptop powers up ok, shut-down and re-insert your battery. You should find your laptop will continue to work fine for the foreseeable future, this kind of issue is a common occurrence on laptops.

If not I would then try re-seating your RAM/Memory, if that doesn't work and you have more than one stick remove one at a time to see if either one is causing the problem. If you have only one stick find a replacement to test your laptop with.

If you are still finding the same issues with the laptop I would then proceed to reseat all components of laptop, including the CPU.

If the issues continue I would then remove all non-essential components one by one, each time attempting to power the laptop. At worst you will eventually end up with just the mainboard, CPU, RAM and an external monitor plugged into the mainboard, that still doesn't function correctly. I would then conclude your mainboard needs replacing.

My laptop turns on, but shuts off immideately. I don't hear the fan running. A couple days ago I used compressed air to clean the fan area (not opening up, but throught the vents) what is the problem?

domisgone,

There's a good chance that your fan is toast, and you may need to replace it.

If the computer turns on and quickly shuts off, with the fan not running, leads me to believe that the shutdowns are caused by the system overheating.

Hope this helps.

My Dell precision M90 will not turn on all the way it acts like its going to boot up and then comes to a screen that either says the battery can not support the system press F1 to shutdown (when it is not...

Seems that either the battery or the power adapter is defective. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective.

Laptop will not turn on, either on battery or using AC adapter. Any help would be appreciated. Dobby

A little more info may be needed to narrow the reason down. What was it doing before this occured...was it witnessed, was it upgrading, was it turned off for the night and then the next day...this, was it running all night in hibernation...etc. Have you tried getting a universal charger and trying that. Do you get power indicator lights when it is plugged in?

This started last night, my battery indicator

The red or amber flashing lights indicate a bad battery. The Dell battery warranty is only for one year and the D600 has been out for a number of years. You should replace the battery. You can use the laptop as it is as long as it is connected to AC power.

There are several places to buy replacement batteries. One is www.bixcomputers.com. If you do a search on the web you should be able to find other sources.

Good luck and I hope this helps, even if it isn't good news.
