There are many versions of ubuntu depending on the computer you are installing it on and its specifications. For computers with less ram you may want to install Lubuntu which only requires a computer to have 128 mb of ram and is similar to windows in the user interface design. You can also download a checksum (hashes) file to ensure you have the proper version attached is a link of the different type of ubuntu and information on checksums (hashes).

I would suggest putting a live version on a thumb drive which allows you to test the Ubuntu version on your computer before you wipe your hard drive. I have included links to sites that have helped me out when I started learning about Ubuntu

Ubuntu is one of the easyest linux distributions to install, it has a visual setup which is very easy to understand and follow very similiar to installing software in windows, the dvd or cd can also be used 'live' without changes to the contents of the hard drive to test it out before decideing if you wish to install it or not.

you can get ubuntu vrom the official website

I want to download the latest version of ubuntu software

Nothing easier than that. Go to ubuntu's homepage (here) or directly to the download page (here) and choose desktop or server.

If you don't want to loose your Windows installation, you can also download the "Windows Installer" (wubi) from here. That installs ubuntu like any other program and you can remove it if you don't like it. More information can be found here.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
Good luck and enjoy!

Im unable to update my version of ubuntu thru auto update as it says my version is not supported anymore what can i do to update my system?

Welcome to FixYa.
You have to download and re-install the latest version of Ubuntu. Download from this link
Make sure to back up all your important files before doing the re-installation.
Ubuntu is a FREE Operating System, though they are trying very hard to support its users, it does not guarantee a total complete auto support like automatic updates. You have to re-install everything when new release is available.

I need it fo free ,Can I please?

Ubuntu is a popular and free operating system you can use. Here's a download link to Ubuntu:

Unfortumately, for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS you need to pay. There is a older version of Mac OS 7.5.3 that is free though. Here's a download link for that:

Whilst most conventional operating systems you must pay for, or come free with some hardware. It is very easy to download some operating systems that are linx based. I would suggest downloading the latest version of ubuntu from this link:

I have an ASUS netbook that runs linux. I don't know linux, but was told to upgrade to ubuntu. I don't know how. Anyone know how?

1. I would suggest finding out which model Eee PC you are using and the hard drive size & type (4GB SSD, 160GB SATA, etc...). If you have less than 4GB, I would probably recommend using another Linux distro, as the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu is pretty heavy.

2. Next, I would probably suggest plugging in the Eee PC (Software/OS installation is very power intensive).

3. Download your distribution (Ubuntu Netbook Edition or Desktop, etc).

4. Download a copy of unetbootin for your PC ( -- There are Linux & Windows versions available.)

5. Using a USB thumb drive (USB Memory stick), you will want to wipe the drive (format using FAT/FAT32 filesystem).

6. Run Unetbootin, selecting the proper USB thumb drive & ISO image from the Ubuntu website.

7. After Unetbootin is finished, close it and safely disconnect the USB drive.

8. Next, plug the USB thumb drive into the Eee PC.

9. Turn on power to the Eee PC & after seeing the initial BIOS splash, hit the ESC key on the keyboard. This should bring up a boot selection screen. Using the arrow keys, select the appropriate USB drive and hit Enter (Return).

10. If all goes well, you should be running Ubuntu Desktop/Ubuntu Netbook Edition as a live desktop. (The installer is a link on the desktop.)

11. There are several step-by-step guides out there, so check them out, if needed. The installer should be very simple on this type of hardware, etc.

Good Luck!

I have original win Xp Home ed. but it is on recovery disk. I changed my motherboard and i could not install my windows from that disk. I want seperate cd of Win XP Home edition.

I'm afraid its a case of buying one. I'd try ebay, the latest version is SP3.

Alternatively you could download and install Ubuntu. Its a free operating system. Google Ubuntu, all instructions are there on the Ubuntu website.
