Why am I constantly getting dark clouds on my screen when watching a film

That is a tough one Mrs Julie Gill. Do others see the clouds on the screen. The most likely reason is your eyes or a medical blood pressure issue with you.

Or is is the television failing.

Or it is in the film, new funky cinematography.

Or it is backlight bleed that you may be able to rectify changing settings.

My screen is getting very dark do I need a new monitor. I've updated the driver and windows is telling me my monitor is working properly

check the setting of the monitor with the buttons on the monitor you should get some thing which says fatory reset etc. see if it makes a difference.
then also try to disconnect all the cable from the monitor except the power cable you would see a test screen on it , if it still seems dark then its a hardware problem on your monitor and you might need to replace it . coz repairing is usually expensive .

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)
