Geforce 7900 driver problem.

I have a geforce 7900, I'm not sure which model. I have had it for years, it has always worked perfectly. I recently reinstalled windows xp on my desktop and when I went to reinstall the driver for it, it makes the quality (resolution) very very low (800x600) and everything becomes very grainy, almost is if there is wayy too much contrast to everything. It will not allow me to change my resolution settings either even though it asks if I would like windows to do it for me because the settings are so low. It won't even fix itself. I have gone into device manager and uninstalled the driver and then reinstalled it several times.. but still the same thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_r...*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

    I used that website to install the chipset drivers for my Intel D946GZIS motherboard.

    It shuts down every time saying "Intel Chipset Device Software installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

    Successfully install chipset drivers thanks to you but that didn't help. Once I reinstalled driver I had the same problem.

    Then I found a different site and downloaded an outdated driver from 2006 (as you recommended) Fixed EVERYTHING! Works perfectly all thanks to you!! 5 Stars! "FixYa!" rating!

    Now, thanks to you and FixYa, I have proper updated drivers and everything runs smoother than ever!

    I only wish I could give you a higher rating... Thank you so much for helping solve this irritating problem and good luck to you in the future!!

Hi,

If re-installing the GeForce 7900 driver does not correct the problem it may be because you need to install first the AGP port driver of the motherboard. In some motherboards, this is part of the chipset. In the case of VIA chipsets, the AGP driver (not the video card) is part of the 4 in 1 driver set.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    The same also holds true for Intel chipset motherboards. Incidentally:

    • Intel has ChipUtil that is meant to determine/verify the actual chipset used in the motherboard;

    • Intel has infinst_enu.exe that is meant to update/inform the OS how to handle the chipset used in the motherboard including the AGP port;

    • Intel has Intel App Accelerator Driver.zip that is meant to update/inform the OS how applications would best be run.
    With all of these in mind, again perhaps your best bet is to find out the chipset driver for the D946GZIS motherboard, download and install. Additionally, it may be to your advantage to install an older version of the NVidia driver such as the 56.72 or any of the 2006 dated drivers.

Blank screen after grapics card installtion

NO NO NO!
The 7900 is vastly superior to the 8500gt!
the 8500gt is a low end budget card not suitable for demanding games- return it get rid of it, that is a massive step down form the 7900. Its likegoing from a 7900 to a 7600 or worse!

Hi there,

go to start run and type in dxdiag a self diagnostic test will come up for the drivers.

perform all the test to make sure everything is ok. based on what you are saying i think the answer probably lies with the direct x drivers. These games need direct x 9c or 10 for it to work so check the version of the directx when u do the diagnostics.

New graphic cards run hot is not unsual, check the temp in the video card properties or via the nvidia tools for temperature. If you are below 80 degrees then you are ok.

good luck
