TI83 Troubleshooting... Josh - Read your reset procedures and I have a similar problem except: My daughter had the calculator for a few years and it did work before. I installed a new backup battery and replaced the four AAA batteries with new. I can't even get the calculator to power up - - the display remains black. As I said, I did try the reset procedures that you listed, but the calculator still will not show anything on the display. Should I give up and trash it?

If i were you since it goes through batteries so fast i would either buy some of the electronic batteries that are supposed to have super long battery lives but cost more or i would buy rechargeable batteries so that i wouldn't have to go out to the store and keep buying new batteries.
Hi
The TI82 is a bit old Technology and if you did not use for a few years the screen is dead its a common problem with this model and the TI83
sorry for not been a big help
The Ti83/84PLUS are a lot more advanced than the TI-30XA because thaeu can graphs, statistics, calculus etc. But they lack a key for the % function, and a key for the fraction manipulation, the angle unit conversions (deg, radians, et grads) and they are a lot more expensive than the TI30XA.
Before your daughter finishes high school, you will eventually have to buy her a graphing calculator but right now a TI83/84Plus calculator seems like overkill. Besides some teachers may not let students have graphing calculators during exams.
Honestly I suggest you buy the TI-30XA Solar version. There are some new nifty calculators manufactured by Casio (Casio FX-115ES, FX-991ES, FX-300ES), Sharp (El-506W, 516W ). The beautiful thing about these new kinds of calculators is that you can configure them to use the Textbook display: equations and expressions can be entered as they would appear in textbooks. The Casios are called Natural Display and the Sharps are know as WriteView models.
In fairness to Texas Instruments, they too have calculators that incorporate that display format but I do not know the exact model numbers (maybe TI34XII multiview).
there is one choice for you to do push 2nd +7 then 4 then 2 this will reset the whole caculater. if it stills does the same thing then it probly need to ne replaced..
TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on at all. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.
Hello, You have a few choices of so called emulators.
Emu48, an emulator for the HP48G/GX calculators is available at hpcalc.org. But if you do not know RPN Reverse Polish Notation you will suffer a bit. Virtual TI version2.5 emulates the TI83, but you will need the ROM of a real TI83 calculator. You will find it at TICalc.org under emulators. There are ROMs available on the Internet but you will have to look for them. You can also find someone who owns a TI83Plus and ask to download the rom from thr calculator. Procedure is described on Ticalc.org TIEmu emulates the TI89, TI92/92PLUS, and the TI Voyahe 200 PLT. It is available for Windows and Linux. For those calculators you can go to education.ti.com and download the OS and drag and drop them on the TI Emu main window.
If you want to do symbolic algebra use the TiEmu. Hope it helps
Will not power up, sam4e after reset procudures.
