Your monitor cannot handle the video card's resolution. I had the exact same problem and I was using a 10-year old monitor. Once I switched the monitor out with a new one, the error message went away!

It probabily happens after you change the settings of display in control panel (windows), if so restart the machine and press function key <F8> after memory test and you shoud get to the startup menu, choose VGA mode and undo the changes in display that you have made.

A few options:

1. Video card is dying, Swap it out, see what happens.
2. The video card has decided to set a resolution or refresh rate that exceeds the monitor spec.
3. You can try loading a proper driver for the monitor and see if that helps.
4. The problem sometimes happens when running 3D games. I usually solve it by selecting *Adapter Default* in advanced display properties (which looks crap) and the upping the resolution to 85Hz I then run the DirectX utility and test this using AGP/Direct3D rendering (if I'm going to have the Out of Range/Adjust Timing Frequency it happens when I run these tests). Anyhow try
the above and make sure you've tried to select the correct monitor.

Good luck

Unplug the power cord to the Monitor for about 10 seconds and they plug the Monitor back into its outlet, and try turning the Monitor on and see what happens.

Samsung Syncmaster 713MB 17" Monitor - Operates OK for about 20 minutes at initial switch on then video signal from PC dissapears to be replaced with a floating box stating that the input signal resolution and sync is wrong. Once this occurs, the video from the PC cannot be displayed until the monitor has cooled down.

Totally inoperative in this condition.
