They are different technologies, but for the same thing. Short answer:
MEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) are numbers unique to every GSM and UMTS mobile phone used to identiry valid devices. IMEI are 15 digits long. (AT&T, T-Mobile)
MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifiers) are unique numbers found on CDMA mobile phones. MEID are 15 alpha-numeric digits long followed by six zeros and a serial number. (Verizon, Sprint, MetroPCS)
The MEID number can usually be found in two places on your phone.
1) Remove the battery. Under it, there should be a small sticker attached to your phone. Your ESN/MEID number should be on it.
2) If you are unable to find it under your battery, put your battery back in your phone and boot it up. Then press the following keys: * # 0 6 # (Star, Pound, Zero, Six, Pound) Your phone should display your ESN/MEID number.
VX8500 does not have an ESN. The VX8500 has an MEID. The MEID is a 14 digit hexadecimal value with the following format: The decimal representation is calculated as follows:
a). Separate the 14 digit hexadecimal MEID into two parts: Part 1 – the first 8 digits representing the manufacturer code (digits RRXXXXXX in the figure). Part 2 – the last 6 digits representing the serial number. (digits ZZZZZZ in the figure).
b). Convert the hexadecimal value of each part into the decimal equivalent: Part 1 – 10 decimal digits zero filled. Part 2 – 8 decimal digits zero filled. If the decimal equivalent of each part is less than the number of required digits, right align and zero fill to create the required length.
c). Concatenate Part 1 and Part 2 to create an 18 digit decimal number.
Example: Hex MEID = AF 01 23 45 0A BC DE Part 1, manufacturer code is 0xAF012345 = 2936087365 Part 2, serial number is 0x0ABCDE = 00703710 Therefore, the decimal representation of the MEID is 29360 87365 0070 3710
I had the same problem initially for the longest time, but I finally found the MEID number...I don't believe the Voyager has an ESN; I think it only has a MEID number. I also have the Voyager, and I am trying to switch from the phone I'm currently using to my Voyager (my other one broke.) But the MEID number is on the inside of the phone, where you place the battery/back cover. It should be on the sticker that says "MODEL NO" on top. And right below where it says "MADE IN KOREA," it should read "H/W REV : 1. 0" unless your number is different. Right below that it should read "MEID : ," with the 14 digit number; I hope this helped!
