Question about Panasonic PT-61HX40 61" Rear Projection Television
I was watching my tv and it just turned off, when I tried to turn it back on the red power button on the tv started blinking. So I unplugged my tv, and tried again, the tv took longer than usual to turn on and as soon as the picture came on the tv turned off again, and the red button started blinking. So in order for the tv to come on at all you have to unplug it and plug it back in, power on front of tv or on remote, tv comes on and as soon as the picture comes on the tv goes back off. I would appreciate it a great deal if someone knows whats wrong or has any suggestions thank you. tv turns off,by its self.about 1 hour after being turn on.
Don't know if this will help or not, but
1. When you say red power button starts blinking were you seeing the power light or the light that indicates the projection bulb is getting weak? My power button that blinks then goes steady is green, not red.
2. If the picture goes off but the tv power light stays on for about an hour and then goes off, it sounds more like the lamp..
3. Mine started to take longer and longer to brighten up and then finally stopped. Replaced the lamp and now it works fine.
They aren't cheap, so wouldn't replace unless you are pretty sure that's the problem. After I replaced mine it worked great for about 3 months. Then one day I tried to turn it on and I got no power to the set at all. No ights flashing or otherwise. After about 6 months, just for kicks, I hit the power button and the green light came on. I got no picture so thought I might have disconnected the cable, shut it down, checked and cable was fine. Tried to power up again and get nothing. Checked the power cord and power at outlet....everything fine. Not the same problem as yours, but they both sound like something maybe in the circuitry that shuts them down if they overheat. Can't find a re-set button or anything like you might expect would be there.
Good luck, if it's the bulb, they're expensive, but real easy to replace.

A tv has two components, firstly a power supply produces high voltage to trigger a line transformer, in turn a transformer produces smaller voltages. firstly check if the ht is constantly been produced from a supply, if this is there than go to a line transformer, and check voltages at the output.

The blinking light tells you what is wrong with the circuit. If it blinks 3 times it is the convergence amplifiler. I had this problem and tried to fix it myself and I don't think that I have it connected good enough. I know this is the problem with mine. I will let you know if this fixes that. Let me see what 5 blinking lites mean. I will tell you what each blink means from the repair manual, 1 blink is +140 circuit, 2 blinks is Low DC, 3 blinks is convergence, 4 blinks is HHS, 5 blinks is IC4011, 6 blinks is IC4018. I hope this helps. You can get a repair manual at servicemanuals.com it really helped me. I will let you know how my repair goes. I hope this helps. Rick
