Problem started as lines moving vertically through screen (looked like a vcr tape tracking but was barely noticable). The lines would go away when the tv was turned off for a minute or two. Problem got a little worse (happened more often) and then the tv suddenly shut off.
When plugged in, there is an initial "click" and then the standby indicator holds red constant. I pulled the panel from the rear of the tv and gave an initial 'look over' and also checked the fuses and everything looked ok . It was mentioned that it could be a HV problem or maybe a shorted CRT? Anyone have any advice or opinions?

Re: Sony KP-61V80 wont turn on
This is a very easy fix actually all you need to do is replace that cap and the set should be fine, this is a very common problem on your model. If you look on the board and give me the location of the cap I will be happy to look up a part number for you.

Picture mute is activated ,it can be vertical amp faulty or one of the c.r.t drive faulty, therefore the mute circuit is active.Increase G2 voltage for the any of the three c.r.t and notice screen .Vertical amp is faultry than you will see horizontal line across the screen and if you see full screen with flyback lines ,means c.r.t drive is having fault.isolate one by one c.r.t drive.
