Question about Sony KP-61V85 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Sony KP-61V80 wont turn on

Problem started as lines moving vertically through screen (looked like a vcr tape tracking but was barely noticable). The lines would go away when the tv was turned off for a minute or two. Problem got a little worse (happened more often) and then the tv suddenly shut off.

When plugged in, there is an initial "click" and then the standby indicator holds red constant. I pulled the panel from the rear of the tv and gave an initial 'look over' and also checked the fuses and everything looked ok . It was mentioned that it could be a HV problem or maybe a shorted CRT? Anyone have any advice or opinions?

I plugged the tv up this evening and listened and watched for any shorting or anything. There is a slight buzzing sound coming from the little white plug where the AC cord comes into the tv. After switching the unit on and off a few times, a small blue/round capacitor began to smoke. When looking into the back of the tv, the cap is located a few inches to the right of the FBT and directly behind a heatshield where a driver is located (looks like a large IGBT). So much for being an easy fix...

This is a very easy fix actually all you need to do is replace that cap and the set should be fine, this is a very common problem on your model. If you look on the board and give me the location of the cap I will be happy to look up a part number for you.

I can hear the broadcast but the screen has lines running vertically and it's not in color. I have a Sony kp61v80

Are you using a cable box? If so, what kind of connection do you have going from the cable box to the TV? Try testing another set of cables, or another type of cable for the input.

unfortunatly no. the vert hold is set by black bars at the top/bottom of the video signal (outside of the viewable area). it sounds like your VCR or tape is damaged.

Hello..i have a sony kp-61v80 tv year 2000

4 times flash of standby light shows that TV has problem in Vertical Deflection area and possible causes are IC1509(V out) is broken and / or Q1505(V Pulse Buffer) is broken.
Please check / test above said IF you have experience of TV repair.

No picture..

Picture mute is activated ,it can be vertical amp faulty or one of the c.r.t drive faulty, therefore the mute circuit is active.Increase G2 voltage for the any of the three c.r.t and notice screen .Vertical amp is faultry than you will see horizontal line across the screen and if you see full screen with flyback lines ,means c.r.t drive is having fault.isolate one by one c.r.t drive.

Recording problem on Sony SLV-R1000

The deck needs a good cleaning. Try using a brand new tape and run it on playback for 20 min or so. You could try using a cleaning tape, but many of them are abrasive. If this doesn't work, you need a deck re-alignment which will cost more than your set is worth.
