posted by edgo on Mar 29, 2006

hi, hope u can help. i have an hp compaq d350 with a screaming fan. it sounds like some sort of aircraft taking off when a flash page is downloaded or whenever the cpu has to deal with heavy graphics. (i'm pretty sure i have a graphics card - the machine is only about 2 or 3 yrs. old)

thanks. -Erik

Hi,
GET RID OF THAT POWER SUPPLY & BUY YOURSELF A DECENT MAKE. BEING A CERTIFIED CUSTOM COMPUTER BUILDER... THERE ARE HUNDREDS OUT THERE. A 500 WATT IS SUFFICENT. IF THE FAN IS MAKING LOUD SCREAMING NOISE..... THEN IT SEEMS THE FAN BUSHING OR FAN BEARING IS BAD. CONSTANT DUST & HEAT WILL CAUSE MANY MOTHERBOARD HARDWARE TO MAL-FUNCTION. BLOW OUT THE PC WITH AIR EVERY 6 MONTHS IF YOU WANT YOUR SYSTEM TO LAST. I STILL HAVE MY ORIG. ONE & ITS OVER 10 YRS. OLD. REMEMBER....BLOW OUT THE DUST & ALL DUST IN YOUR POWER SUPPLY FANS, COOLING FANS, FRONT & SIDE CASE FANS, & EVEN YOUR PROCESSOR FAN. AAAAAA----->> MUST DO !!!

Backing up Hendrix, only I would be carefull when using WD-40 around electronics, it can be conductive. Safer to use a special lubricant for electronics.

Good luck!

What to do is the best way to make sense.
Take the cpu apart ,couple of side screws to unscrew and then slide of the side of the box.
Unplug the the cord connected to the fan ,then try to un install the fan by pushing the plastic bolts out of the graphic card then take the fan and blow on it if you have any vegetable oil then put some on the fan and let if drop down to the base clean the fan and the whole devise put together and let if work.

If that won't help, then do it again from the top,but take it apart as much as it is possible and clean and oil.Put back and mount back.

If that won't help then replace.

The reason your fan inside your P.C is screaming is that it is an intelligent fan.

The fan at the bottom of the 3125 PSU has possibly stopped working, causing the fan in the P.C to scream its head off.
This has nothing to do with motor brushes or anything else.
I hae seen this lots of times on shuttle P.C's, in my 20 years plus as a certified system builder.

Solution replace the PSU. The 3125 Biostar has been renumbered recently, but I forget what the new number is. The 3125 was a tad underrated

hi
well install a couple of wings and your good to go!....:)
the fan starts when the power supply is heating up from a big pull of current
all you need to do is service the little jet
- unplug the power
- take a can of compressed air and blow it on the fan (while working to)
- after you cleaned it take a spry oil can (WD40....) with a nozzle and lubricate the hinge of the fan (not to much, while working only if the hinge is opened from outside)

good luck
