Yellow blinking power button

My Dell Optiplex SX280 won't start up, when trying to power on the power button is just blinking yellow, seems like a power failure and I have tried with a power adapter from another computer that works.

I have found some of the same indications my self and when I checked the capacitors on the mainboard there was 3 or 4 of them that are swollen and 2 of them leaking. I have ordered some new capacitors and will try to replace all of them to see if this solves the problem. I will get back and post the result when it's done.

A customer of mine has several of these that have the same problem. I found a comment on a Dell forum indicating that one of the capacitors on the mainboard will be either swollen or leaking. Replace the capacitor and it should be OK. I do not have the proper equipment for soldering on a mainboard so I have not done this. However, I did a google search on "Dell SX280 mainboard purchase" and I found a guy on ebay selling the repaired boards for $100.

Optiflex sx280 does not start.

Fans working? Maybe a PSU failure? Replace CMOS Battery. Reseat/replace Memory Mods. It's getting a bit old. Hard to say with a older computer thing start to go one by one. I replaced a PSU after 7 years. CMOS battery dead, replaced, Then the Sound Failed, new sound card. etc. I stripped it of useful parts and sent it out into the world.

IN dell optiplex sx280 model system we are using in this amber power led blinking continuly yellow color because of this not able to boot the system. kindly give the solution for the same

Hi there!

A blinking amber/orange light on the power button of your Dell Optiplex means a hardware failure. If you know how to strip down your computer to basic component, then I suggest you turn on with only the motherboard, processor, memory and PSU. If you are not familiar with this, I suggest you bring the computer to a qualified technician.

Hope this helps

Cant power up yellow light blinking

The most common reasons are the battery, power adapter/cord and power jack.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Also, power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

Hope this helps.

Dell dimension 4700 blinking yellow light

Are you getting any beep signals? You could have a massive motherboard failure or you could be having something a little easier to a memory a little research on beep codes on google if you are getting beeps from the motherboard...Also, try opening your machine and pulling out the memory sticks and trying them one at a time...if the machine works with one and not the other (for example) then you may need to simply replace that bad stick of memory...
