Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
My dad has cancer in his hips and can't get around very well. He has been given a laptop to put his cad pro program on it is this Dell latitude cpi-r series the problem is there is no cd drive and it is also windows 98. the software is compatible with the windows 98 but not the vista that I have on my computer. I have a flash drive and was hoping to transfer the information thru this device. keep in mind i am no computer guru by any means. as i said i have windows and i am sure there is a way to update this software I just figured it would be so much easier to do this at work where i still have xp and is also compatible. Now for my question how do I hook the computer up to the internet for one thing there is a 56k global modem pc card but i can't find a actual port to hook up. I have a wireless router and tried that also with no luck. I am needing to download a driver for the cruzer flash can you help?
It seems you have several questions. Some programs must be installed from a cd some don't.
1. You can try copying the contents of cd and pasting it to the flash drive then to the laptop into a single folder and run the install/setup program from there. This may or may not work.
2. You can install Magic Disc to your computer and the laptop.
With this program you can copy a cd or dvd into one file.
Then this program can take the file and load it as a cd rom drive.
You can download the program from this link.
Once you have the program installed you should see you have a new dvd-drive in my computer and a new icon on the taskbar. The icon will have a hand holding a cd disk.
Right Click on it and select make cd/dvd image.
Select the drive where you have the cad cd.
Select where you want it saved on your computer. Make sure you click on the folder type a filename and click save or it will put the file in some strange place, and make sure you take down where it saved it to.
Keep the .uif format don't change it.
No need to make a password.
Let it do it's thing.
When it's done you will have the .uif file on your hard drive you can run as if it is a cd drive without a cd drive.
To do this right click on the magic disk icon in the taskbar and select "Virtual CD/DVD-ROM", select No Media, select mount.
In the "Mount CD/DVD" window select the .uif image file you created.
The cd file should load just as if you had inserted a cd into a real cd drive.
To do this on the laptop first copy the installation file for magic disc to the laptop then intall it. Then copy the .uif file to the laptop and mount it the same way I said on xp.
I've use this program a ton and it works great. My kids can't ruin cd's this way. :)
Note: If your flash drive isn't big enough you can use a program like winrar or file dicer to break the .uif file into smaller pieces and move it over piece by piece.
