Depends on what your tv is ill give u basic coax out from wall into cable box out from cable into vcr out from vcr into tv for better picture use red white and yellow from vcr to tv. for dvd use red white yellow out from dvd in to tv for better picture if tv has use s-video instead of yellow cable. for even better use red green blue(component)along with white and red for audio. if tv is hd and if dvd has it the very best is hdmi. you will only need one cable from dvd to tv instead of three or five sounds like a lot i know but take one step at a time youll get it

I have purchased Samsung 550 - series L5 - I don't seem to be able to hook up the VCR to it to record. I have cable on it and I would like to be enable to record programs. Television ask if I want to...

You don't record from TV, you record from cable so cable needs to be hooked up to input on VCR.
If you don't use cable box you would hook cable to VCR then out of VCR to TV. If you use cable box then you need to connect Video and Audio outputs on cable box to Video and Audio inputs on VCR and switch input of VCR to Line input.

Make sure your VCR is on channel 3 or try channel 4. Also, make sure your VCR is set to VIDEO or VCR and not TV.
A better way to do this is to connect the cable box to the VCR using the composite cable (yellow/red/white) cable. Then, connecting the cable box to your TV with component cable (red/greenblue) cables. This will only work if your TV has component in. If not, then connect the VCR out composite (yellow/red/white) to the TV. Or use the coax cable from the cable box labeled TV/VCR right to your TV. Make sure your VCR is set on LINE1 or LINE.

Vcr hook up

Have you tried to run:
Coax from the wall to your cable box.
Coax from the cable box out to the VCR cable in.
Coax from the VCR cable out to your TV?

What connections does your TV have? RCA or coax?

Rca vcr

there a a bunch of different ways. 1) if you don't have a cable box hooked up to this tv,plug the main cable wire into the vcr input then the vcr outout to the tv.2) if you do have a cable box, plug the main cable into the cable box input, then the output to the vcr input, then the vcr output to the tv. put both the tv & vcr on channel 3 for this connection. [ you must have the vcr on channel 3 to record from the cable box!] 3) if you have aux line/video or source inputs on the back of your tv,you can hook up rca cables [ red, white,& yellow ] from the rca outputs on the vcr to the tv inputs.
hope this helps
