D52W20 TL120 transistor

I need a part number for the TL120, I ordered the Thompsons manual and it is difficult to read and it does not match the circuit board I have. We started with only one green light and changed out the flyback. Now we have three blinks and cannot find the part number for the TL120 HELP

No squealing sound at all and the transister in question is a little smaller than the H.O.T. that is on the heat sink. The transister is located at L-4 on the board

  • bgbrd9 Sep 15, 2008

It has three leads, looks just like the H.O.T. but is a little smaller

  • bgbrd9 Sep 15, 2008

The TL120 is just at the right corner of the middle heat sink

Need an AR 200W 1000M7 repair manual

If it goes in to overload then the answer is that one or more of the output transistors are fried. If the amp is very old then also check the main power capacitors. They might have dried out too and are no longer holding charge.

Replacing the transistors isn't difficult. The manual won't really help you. You will need to unbolt them from the heat sink, then unsolder from the board before finding the part number from the device and ordering replacements. Transistors normally work in pairs - a push pull arrangement. There'll be a PNP and an NPN in each pair. Make sure to note which type came from the sockets on the board so they don't get mixed up on re installation.

Capacitors always have the values printed on them too. The MicroFarads (uF) - stick to the exact same value. The voltage can be upped a bit. That will actiually help. Also the temp rating. Standard caps are 85 Deg C. Better versions are 105 Deg C. Upsepc the temp if you have the opportunity. Finally, go with decent brands rather than just the cheapest. Millions of flat panel TVs fail each year because TV makers penny pinch on caps. Don't make their mistake in your amp.

Good luck

Where can I get an Akai SW-180 manual?

sorry no manuals, unless torrents.- as to your speakers most speaker of this design and age break down on the bass reproduction and become sloppy over time while the high end wont fatigue unless it abused by excessive current the bass diaprams cand be replace and the seakers reconned. which isn`t very costly.
personally I would match them with something like a NAD QUAD
transistor, very smooth, or tube amp. The worst match is japanese transistor. the quad uses something like n2025 quarter size trensistors and most asions uses bloks or stacks where instead of one trasistor blowing the entire channel melts down. if you read between the lines, you`ll understand my opining remark

I have kicker kx800 2 some transistors where burn out making it short out I remove them and the short stop when I hook it back up with the 2 transistors out it powers up red then turns off I found out that...

It's probably not getting power there since you have removed the transistors that supply power to it. I would replace all transistors first then see what happens. trying to run it without them may not work out as a way to trouble shoot it. I always replace all similar transistors with new matching batch numbers parts, if 1 is bad then they all must be replaced with parts that are all perfectly matching components meaning they should all be from the same batch when they were produced. You will have to request this when you place your order. Transistors will vary slightly from batch to batch, the closer they all are the better your amp will work. also check the resistors that lead into the Mosfets.

It should be marked Q401 on the printed board. It will have 3 legs you need to desolder these and then you can read the number to order a replacement. Make a note of how the transistor is fitted before you remove it. For example if it is flat on one side and that faces another part then when you put the new one back it should go in the same way, with the legs matching the holes in the pc board.
