Question about Sony XS-L1290P5 Car Subwoofer

1 Answer

Stopped working I had recieved the Acoustik explosion subs for x-mas and the other day one of the speakers stopped working. I checked all the wires and they all work fine but when i connect it to the speaker it does not work. I beleive there is a short inside the speaker itself. Is there any way i can fix it myself or find an electronics store that could do that kind of repair. I have emailed a few places and the were no help at all. If u can please help. I would appreciate it greatly if u can tell me how to fix it or tell me what kind of place to take it to for the repair THANX Josh

Speaker not working

before you do that i would recommend seeing if you can send it in under warranty because i know that a lot of speakers when you dissemble them you end up doing more damage then good.

Rockford 12'' P2 sub, stopped workin.

It sounds like you have a bad voice coil in the speaker. You can have the speaker rebuilt, but it is very expensive. People usualy only have very high end home speakers rebuilt, because then it is worth the cost. Hope this helped.

How do i wire two 15 inch subs to 2 ohms

Hello familia_gome,

Those MOFO-15's have dual 1ω voice coils. So the only way you can get 2 of them to present a 2ω load is to use 1 voice coil on each one with the two of them wired in series. Using both voice coils, you can get a 1/4ω load by wiring the voice coils in parallel and then wiring the subs themselves in parallel. You'll get a 1ω load with the voice coils in series and then parallel the subs. Or you'll get a 4ω load with both the voice coils and the subs in series.

Here's a link to Power Acoustik's PDF for the MOFO's. I recommend that you check out the wiring diagrams on page 3.

Hope this helps.

Wiring the coils together

For each sub, tie the DVCs in parallel ("+"s together, then "-"s together). This will make the subs look like 2 ohms to the amp. Then, put one sub on each channel of the amp. That will put about 280W rms onto each sub, the max for the amp.

Subs not working but amp is

Sounds like a Ground problem on the amplifier earth connection to chassis, could be a little loose if so.. also check if the paint is scraped off, so there is good ground. Also check all positive 12+ on the amplifier if all wires is tight. Cheers mate
