Oven light burned out and the cover won't come off
The oven light burned out, but I can't remove the cover (to allow me to change the bulb). I have tried turning it as well as pulling it. I finally called Thermador today, and they told me it has to be changed by a technician. What?! It's going to cost me $99 to change a light bulb?

DISCONNECT THE POWER TO THE OVEN -----1 - Hold bulb cover in place and slide the wire retainer off of the cover ----- 2 - Remove the light bulb cover and the light bulb ----- 3 - Replace with a 40 watt appliance light bulb ----- 4 - Replace light bulb cover and wire retainer ----- 5 - Reconnect the power to the oven and set the clock
1. Essentially, open the oven door and remove the plastic vent strip between oven and microwave (4 screws). There will be 2 screws under that which secure the microwave unit to the frame. Remove those...
2. Open the microwave door and remove the plastic vent shield at the top (3 screws). At that point, the microwave unit will slide out from the frame as describe above. The light is to the rear of the large silver pad (I removed mine to facilitate reaching the light). If you look at the parts diagrams online, it will be obvious what to look for. I have the light out and sure enough, OSRAM 64405S.... Took me maybe 5 minutes to remove...
Thanks for supplying the model number. I took a quick glance at your unit and the light bulb cover screws off counter clockwise. Once off, change out the light bulb. Placing a damp rag around it allow for a much better grip.
Before doing any work on an electric range or oven, make sure it's unplugged, or turn off the power to the unit by removing one or more fuses or tripping one or more breakers at the main entrance panel or at a separate panel. If the range is fused at a separate panel, this panel may be located adjacent to the main panel or in a basement, crawl space, or other location. If there is a grounding wire to the range, disconnect it. Make sure the power to the unit is off.
you'll want to replace it using these simple instructions.
Make sure the bulb is actually burned out. Confirm the oven is plugged in and that a circuit breaker is not tripped.
Look for the manual to determine what size bulb is required. Most use a 40 watt appliance bulb. If you can not find the manual, then buy a bulb to replace it after you take out the old one.
3Confirm that the oven is not on. Allow it to cool to room temperature if it has recently been used.4
Open the door and use a flashlight to light the area where the bulb is located. Do not put weight on the door itself, but go in at an angle or sideways.
Find the shield or cover over the bulb, gently pull or twist it off. Some glass covers are surrounded by a wire clip or a ring that is screwed in to the back. 6
Gently remove either the wire clip or ring. Since the cover is most likely glass, be cautious. Unscrew the entire glass cover similar to a jar lid in older versions of ovens. Then repeat process if there is more than one bulb. In most microwaves you simply have to take the cover off by unscrewing holding screws. Replacing bulb is pretty straightforward, simply take out holding screws, disconnect leads, and remove bulb from place. To install new one, reverse steps. Usually it is really hard to find replacement parts. It is usually better if you take microwave name, model and serial number, and take info to a place that specializes in appliances
Tips & Warnings
Consider replacing the switch on the oven door if you replace the bulb and the light still does not work. Shut the door and open a few times or press the button manually to see if the light works randomly or not at all. hope this helps thanks and Godbless
they are often very stiff due to crud burning on. use mole grips and there is a risk you will break bulb cover but that is not the end of the world.
make sure you use a heat proof bulb as a replacement
The interior oven light in most ovens is a standard 40 watt appliance bulb. Often, to change the bulb, you first need to remove a shield or glass dome. If the bulb isn't burned out, the problem may be with the switch on the oven door frame. If the switch works poorly, intermittently, or not at all, you need to replace it.
