Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Will not start up

Comp worked great up until today with no problems at all. Then shut it down completely and now it will not start up. When i push the power button the lights come on and the whirring of the drive and possibly the fan start (normal stuff) then the whirring stops after about 5 seconds. After waiting about 15 seconds the computer shuts itself off. Upon pushing the power button again the lights will flash and it shuts itself off in about 3 seconds with no attempt to start up.

My Lights come on but nobody's home - no beeping or anything - and the lights stay on. I'm going to try taking everything out like suggested. It was fine and than all the sudden locked up, I attempted to reboot and kaput.

If it's not beeping during the first start up then it's not POSTing.  Beep means everything connected to it seems to be functional ie PnP
Try pulling out your memory and reseating it.   Try pulling out your battery for 5 minutes then plug in ac(without batt) and see if it will boot.  Try pulling your hard drive and reseat.  (access by covers on bottom...dont be scared. Touch something that's grounded just before you remove) If all this and still no full POST(with beep/s) then sounds like a new mobo or processor.

Hi! When I shut my computer down the lights do not

When you shut off your PC do you:
1) Give it enough time (could take from 1 minute to 10 minutes) to shut down completely (easy sign is if the fun continues to run or lights are on)?

2) Clicked Hibernate or Sleep OR closed your laptop screen before it completely finished shutting down (this could put the PC to sleep and it would remain on, so the lights would remain on, until you woke it by moving a mouse, flipping the screen back and forth for a bit or pressing the start button (not holding))?

3) Have it plugged in (depending on the model, a light might stay on if it is charging even if it is not on(probably not this one since you said it turns off after a Hard shutdown (don't do this since this damages your computer and will make it break down after continued use)))

Hi...i'm trying to boot my comp however it doesnt seem to want to get past the microsoft corporation loading screen....d2d doesnt seem to work either

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.
Step 6: your PC will boot to the windows.

My computer will not boot up keeps closing down

check how often it shuts down and if it shuts down when you start a particular application then start your computer and go to BIOS and leave it on there ( for example if your comp shuts down every 3 mins in normal mode then leave the comp on for 15 mins in bios to determine if it is a hardware or software issue then check in sfae mode the event log or error reporting if any hardware is causing the issue, update the drivers or try with new user or reinstall OS as last option.

Aspire 5100 wont save when i shut down

It appears that the C dirve is using 98% of space. Let us try to delete some temporary files, to do so, click Start Menu> Run> type %temp% and hit enter. It will open the temporary folder, delete all the files listed in this folder. Now, again click Start> Run> type prefetch and hit enter, it will open the prefetch folder, delete all the files listed on it. It should take care of the issue.

Computer completely shuts down. Sometimes it doesn't start up. Other times, it starts up and randomly shuts down. Did full system restore and still have problems with it turning off. Their tech support has...

Either this is a overheating problem, need CPU fan for this. If this doesn't work, then it could be a hard drive problem. If not, then motherboard is probably going bad.

"logging off" ... it never ends. now what?

From your start menu, choose computer, at the top of that window hit system properties, on the left hit system protection, It should be open to the system retore page, Hit the system restore button. What you want is to restore to the last day your computer shut down right. For me that was just before the last windows update on 5/7/2009 when my computer as well started not shutting down. The system restore doesn't erase any of your files it just restores the system files and drivers back to the date you specify. Worked for me!

Laptop boots then shuts automatically off

Try this, if you have a fast hand, the second it boots, push Ctrl+Shift+Esc and end taskeng.exe.
If you can't do it fast enough, try booting into safe mode, going to scheduled tasks, and removing any suspicious ones.
If you don't know how to boot to safe mode, push f8 until you see a screen which allows you to choose safe mode.
