    I have a 5 year old Toshiba TV that needs a fly-back 23236645.
The suggested solution to phone Part Store and see if there is a replacement will not work as the replacement is no longer made. They suggested that it is unlikely that such a part can be found anywhere. Is this true or is there another option.

I went into this site and it says that neither the regular part or the alternative part are available any more

replace flyback transformer (same type - equivalent will not work ) - this part's work is to supply voltage to TV TUBE - after 4 years ( 4 to 10 years - depending on usage ) this part becomes weak then in top brand TVs automatically TV senses this deffect & well in advance it shuts off TV to protect other components from getting damaged due to this flyback transformer ........... as on now in your case only flyback transformer is deffective - so replace it as early as possible ....... click below link for more details on how to replace it ......

Flyback transformer

A flyback transformer is one of the more expensive components in a projection TV. If there is no clear reason, such as a known power surge, you could well replace the flyback transformer again soon because the root problem was elsewhere.
An OEM transformer is not necessary but you might have trouble convincing an authorized factory service technician to use anything but the original manufacturer's parts.
As with many of today's electronic devices, if it is more than a year or two old, you will find the new products cheaper and with more features. The next generation of projection TVs will use lasers and scanning will be done with optically controlled micro-mirrors - no flyback transformer required.

I was told tthat the flyback is bad on my toshiba tv model #CF36G40 can i replace the flyback myself? Is there any adjustments that need to be made after replacement?

Stay the hell away from a flyback. It will knock you clear across the room! The only thing I look for in a tv is an internal fuse, and then I look very carefully. If I don't find a fuse, I toss it.

12 year old Sony TV won't work when on it's stand, but works when removed from stand and placed on the floor. It was fine for 12 years. The problem when on the stand is that it swicthes off immediately...

Solder connections. The older sonys had issues with solder around the flyback , HV transformers and yoke plugs. Check the solder connections all around the HV areas.

Toshiba 42H82 RPTV: Sound but no picture

It sounds like the 200v supply to the crt's is missing. this is the source for driving the tubes, other than the high voltage generated by the flyback transformer. If the set got really bright gray with wome white lines that are kinda on a diagonal, this is generally the cause. the source for this voltage is a diode on the secondary of the flyback transformer.

Toshiba 35A44 - Dark picture on all channels and DVD's

for this brightness problem actually came out from flyback transformer...so, before you spend and waste your money, try to adjust at back of your tv first. But if you aren't an expert, better ask technician to do because that transformer supply a very high voltage....there's two adjustment point at flyback transformer, one point for focus and the other one for brightness! try first...
