Maytag does not use a motor coupling between the drive motor and transmission. It is BELT driven. Know your appliances before giving improper advice.

Hello tomlyoung59

it sounds like the coupling between the transmission and the agitator is bad . You know the transmissions now a days have plastic gears in them and if you continue to use it may blow the transmission!
Speed queen is the only one I know with stainless steel parts in the trans and only 6 moving parts in the trans too.

How old is the washer?

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!
Water,Electric and detergent! And put money back in your pocket!
The new appliance will pay for itself in only a few years!

Whirlpool top loading cloths washer agitator is loose when it should be turning. how do i tighten it?

Sounds like you might have bad agitator dogs. Remove the agitator cap, theres a 5/16th bolt that needs to be removed then the top of agitator comes off. The dogs are 4 little gears with teeth on them, when they get worn the top half of the agitator doesn't move.

+whirlpool LSQ8243HQ0 water valve works. wont wash or spin. new motor coupling and timer.

Under the agitator you have what is called (agitating dogs). The agitator will have to be removed. The top should spin off, you will be able to look down into the agitator and see a bolt. Remove this bolt and the agitator can be pulled out. The agitators are small pieces of plastic with small teeth. These teeth get worn out over time or if the washer is overloaded. When the agitator free spins one way the teeth grab a (gear) on agitator and this is how you get the washing action (agitating). These dogs are easy to replace and cost about $5. Top part of agitator doesn't turn.

You need agitator dogs. The part number is 80040. The agitator needs to be removed and separated to replace these components. They are geared teeth that strip out over time. Hope this helps _MJ_

I have a clicking sound on my maytag neptune washer. it clicks through the whole cycle, is that normal? it sounds like clicking and then spinning, like wheel of fortune show

I would check the agitator,( the middle part of the washer that turns back and forth, hence agitator) and see if it is snug, by popping off the cap at the top of the agitator with a flat-head screw driver, and then checking to see if the nut is on tight or the four little hooks, that hook onto the jagged teeth, around the top of the agitator. I hope that this helps.

Whirlpool washer agitates but makes a very loud noise

It sounds like the agitator teeth, that are plastic, are worn out. To check this, take the agitator cap off with a strong knife or flat-head screw driver, and check the circular teeth inside, to see if they are worn out. These plastic teeth are the agitator part of the washer, where as the spinning part is a metal set of teeth, at the bottom of the agitator. You see the metal teeth, when you take the agitator completely out. You will have to replace the agitator if the teeth are worn out.
