You did not specify what OS you are using, click on the OS and then download.

Ones you have succesfully installed the product, you can try scanning a document with the paint program for example.

start -> run (or hold down windows key and press r) type in mspaint and press ok

now in paint, click file and from scanner or camera, scan a document by following the on screen instructions

If you erase the hard drive what does it get rid of that might need to be backed up.

If you erase the hard drive (i.e. format it) you get rid of everything, including the operating system (Windows), all your installed software, and of course all files you have created, downloaded or otherwise put in.

This means, that you will be left with a computer that can't do anything.

If you have a Windows installation disc (CD/DVD) that came with the computer, you can then re-install Windows on the computer and then gradually install all the other needed software. If you don't, there's still a chance that your DELL has a "system restore partition", that will be able to restore the disk to a "factory" state, with Windows and all the necessary drivers installed. But you'll have to specify your exact model if you want further advice.

How to Sell Your Old Computer for its Maximum Value

If you've made it here, you're probably trying to sell your old computer. Maybe you got a new one and upgraded, it doesn't mean you can't get some money back from your old one!

Remember when youfirst bought your old computer? It probably ran like a champion, there's no reason it can't do it again. Re-imaging is the process of reformatting your hard drive, erasing all of the data including personal records you might not want being seen by anyone but you. Making a computer run like new is great for potential buyers.

  • Re-imaging is not as hard as many people think, the computer will guide you through the entire process. To re-image your computer, insert the software disc that came with the computer, or an operating system disc you may have upgraded to. Install a clean version of Windows, or Mac OS, and don't set any passwords. Now, the computer is back to its factory settings.

  • Upgrading the hardware in it probably isn't necessary, and if you go out and buy parts, it probably won't give you a significant payback. Let the buyer worry about that.

  • List your computer online on your local craigslist or classifieds page; post a phone number so people can contact you right away about your computer. Be detailed in your ad, tell the buyer what it's good for, such as word processing or surfing the web, maybe even graphic design. Load up some software you have lying around that could increase the value, maybe Photoshop or Microsoft Office. Make the computer look good, clean up the vents and get the dust out.

  • That's it! Don't just leave your computer in a corner to collect dust and eventually be thrown out, put the money from it towards a new computer or back in your pocket!sah0605.jpg

Erase information from computer

If You are familiar with the windows installation, you can reinstall windows. During installation, the system asks You about partition where You want to install windows. So: 1. Select option Delete partition, and answer the question of the system "yes". This option erase All your existing information. 2. Create the partition on the same disc. 3. Install the windows on the same partition. That's all.
If You have another partitions or disc, just format it. And don't forget backup Your personal data!
In any case, is much better to sell the computer with the operation system recently installed - it works much better than a PC with used OS. Best regards.

How to Erase a Burned CD

CD-RW stands for CD re-writeable. This type of disc can be written on or "burned" multiple times. However, in order to burn music or data onto a CD-RW that already has something on it, you must first erase the current contents of the disc. No special software is needed to do this, as you can do it with the Windows Media Player program, which already comes installed on all computers with the Windows operating system. Regular CD-R discs cannot be erased or reused--the discs must be labeled as CD-RW.

Instructions
Step 1.
Click on the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Select "Windows Media Player" from the pop-up menu.
Step 2.
Select the "Library" tab in the main Windows Media Player screen.
Step 3.
Insert the CD-RW that you want to erase in the CD-ROM drive. Close the "AutoPlay" window if it appears.
Step 4.
Right-click the CD-ROM drive in the "Navigation" pane on the left side of Windows Media Player. Select "Erase disc" from the drop-down menu. This will automatically erase the contents of the disc.

Reformating my gateway E 4100

reformatting a drive is a big undertaking, formating the drive will erase everything, including viruses, before you format you need to make sure you have all the discs including the windows disc, driver discs, and a factory restore disc, also you make check the documentation on your system because alot of the gaetway, dell, emachines systems have restore partitions installed on the drive. Also youll need alot of coffee and alot of time, most importantly aside from the windows disc youll need a driver disc for any ethernet or wireless card you have installed. without this you will not have access to the internet most likely and donloading updated drivers is very helpful. This is a time consuming proccess unless there is a restore partition on the harddrive, the documentation will tell you how toaccess it if it exists, if not a restore disc will be nice.

After using recovery disc and reinstalation I only have a few programmes

Usually recovery disc only include software/programs that came with the computer when you bought it new.

Sometimes there are more than 1 recovery disc as the first one restores the operating system and the 2nd one restores programs/software back.

If none of the above are in your case, then you would most likely have to reinstalled those other programs.

GM5664 won't play Blue-Ray Discs

There are newer versions out Cyberlink PowerDVD out now. Perhaps getting their new software would fix your problem. However the newer versions of PowerDVD will cost you a few bucks. There may be free software that plays the Blu-Rays. I'd definitely look around before buying the software.
