There is a thermal fuse on the back of the oven that has blown, it is in series with the broil and bake elements so when it goes out neither element will work. You will have to pull the oven and take the back off. the fuse will be behind the rear panel. It usually has to red wires going to it. Once the fuse is replaced the oven should work fine. It is fairly common for this fuse to blow during the clean cycle due to a lack of air flow around the oven.

Self clean will not switch to oven temperature

About 6 times a week we see 'Self Clean' cycles that break ovens. Try removing the mains plug or turning off the breaker for an hour. If that doesn't fix it, you will need a service call on you mystery make appliance. It could be the thermostat burnt out or the control board frazzled.

Self Clean oven temperature is about 880 degrees Fahrenheit.
Self-Clean Ovens
The oven is cleaned by heat, at temperatures above normal cooking temperatures. During the cleaning cycle the oven is heated to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471° C.). At this temperature, food soils inside the oven decompose, leaving behind a small amount of ash.

Oven will not unlock after self clean

Unfortunately, the high temperature limit sensor probably failed during the self-clean cycle. The oven control unit will not receive the signal that the oven is cool enough to unlock the door without the sensor.

If the oven is cool, you can try unplugging the oven for a while and then see if the oven unlocks after power is restored. Pressing the Cancel button several times (or pressing and holding Cancel, depending on the model) may also work. Sometimes, starting a new cleaning cycle and then stopping it (and waiting for the oven to cool) will work.

However if the sensor has failed, the above steps are unlikely to work. You can try to move the lock manually. On some models, you can use a bent coat hanger to slide between the oven door and the frame and push the lock over. On other units, you might open the back panel and rotate the lock mechanism cam.

The oven will not work until the high temperature sensor is replaced. Sometimes the lock mechanism fails and that is what needs to be replaced. If the oven works, then look at replacing the lock motor.

I hope this helps. If your oven is under warranty, contact GE for the repair. Please add a comment with the model of your unit for specific information on the parts you may need.

I purchased my maytag double oven February 2011 and it has worked great. This morning I used the self clean cycle on top oven for only 2 hours. But after it cooled and unlocked I realized I needed to clean...

you might have to clean it YOURSELF....
umm, power down at circuit breaker for a minute, power up, reset clock and try again.
otherwise wait a few days.

Used the self cleaning option ~ put it on for 2 hours. Waited the hour for the oven to cool off hoping that the Locked icon would disappear. Did not - oven will not open.

My oven door is locked. It is not cleaning. I have tried turning off the breaker. help i have a turkey to put in the oven. Is there a sequence of buttons I can push to unlock it?

Hello,

Here are some solution on how to unlock the door of your oven ans do self cleaning below.

IF you can locate the model number tag (bottom left of door opening) you can look up the manual at www.geappliances.com
The only button on your stove that should make the door lock would be the clean button (self clean model) if that is pressed simply hit the clear/off or cancel key and wait for the door to unlock. IF the self clean option ran for an hour or so, you will have to wait for the oven to cool down before the lock can unlock (safety feature).
hope this helps you out please rate this solution it helps get better results for our customers like you
