Sound card A local person advertising to fix laptops fixed mine by reinstalling the operating system with XP professional and i usually had xp home. When i got it back i had no sound and on further inspection it said that the sound card was not installed or the driver wasnt installed or something similar. I was wondering is there any solution to this problem or a way to get the sound card working again.

    Thanks for your reply

I do have a licensed copy of windows xp home however the laptop didnt provide a reboot cd and they wanted me to buy one off them and the person advertisong to fix laptops was cheaper than buying the cd so i decided to let him fix it which i now know was a mistake.

I dont know if the drivers will be on the net as i live in ireland and its an irish laptop. The make and model number are:

    Iqon
    Model number: 332
    Marketing name: QOM 5025

    Thanks for your help

That was a dodgy job,
the licence for windows XP installed by this guy is not genuine and can get you in troubles with Windows updates.
If you have a valid Windows XP licence (check the sticker at the base of your laptop), you should reinstall XP home using the licence number on the sticker.
If you do not have a licence, well I cannot talk here...

Regarding the sound, that is not a big problem, you just need to download and reinstall the drivers for your laptop.

Post a new question on Fixya, giving details on your laptop make and model, you will get the link to download for drivers.

I will be offline for the following few hours.

Don't forget to rate the solution appropriately.

Thanks

Going into the control panel on my computer when i try to click on add/ remove programs. It states that i have an windows rundll32.exe. what does that mean and how do i fix it.

This is usually the sign of a major infection and means you machine will need professional help. Basically many modern threats attack the system and will disable things like Antivirus, Control Panel access, and the ability to add and remove programs from the system. Many times the threats have to be removed form outside the Operating System, in your case Windows XP.

As this is highly technical and will involve many tools and procedures to effectivly remove all the infections I suggest seeking a good local company.

Your other choice is to format and reinstall the Operating System from scratch.

Lost sound

Fixed this common problem several times with vista updates.
Simply reinstall the drivers for your sound card, via the system properties console, click hardware, right click the sound system properties, and choose to find and reinstall drivers automatically.

Trying to reinstall windows xp and not letting me

do you have a XP installation disc? do you have a valid product number? (sometimes the product number is located on a sticker, depends if you brought the PC ready made)

Lastly how many times have you reinstalled the OS? if you have a OEM product code I think the limit of reinstalling the OS is 5 times, after then you have to speak to MS. although you have to have to reach the activate windows screen before this becomes an issue.

Seems the person didn't do such a great job at it. The drivers must be missing, they are available at the laptop makers website, If you send me the brand and model of the laptop I can see if I can find them for you

How to install XP in toshiba Satellite L45-S7423 laptop

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.
