Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I have recently had a corgi registered plumber remove a gas fire with back boiler from my living room and he blanked off the supply as we no longer require a fire in its place. we also have installed a new gas hob. he did a gas leak detection and found we were loosing gas so he disconnected the hob and this seemed to have solved the gas leak on doing another test pointing to a problem with the hob or the micro hose. I bought a new micro hose and this still hasnt been fitted but since the guy has made these changes my gas oven seems to be producing an awful smell of gas whilst on. when i open the oven door the smell and fumes really stings my eyes. what can the problem be.

IMMEDIATELY ISOLATE THE OVEN AND DO NOT USE. GET PLUMBER BACK - HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHECK THE APPLIANCE ITSELF FOR LEAKS BUT THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE JUNCTION OF THE CONNECTION HOSE WITH THE HOB

We have just moved house and have been left a Belling Platinum Dual Fuel db2 Cooker and cant get the ignition to work. Can anyone suggest what we should do?

by cooker,do you mean a stove? is it gas?is the gas knob in the "on" position?is the stove plugged in?
i clean out apartments to get them ready for new tenants. if the ignition clicks on,but the burner isn't lighting,it might be dirty. i soak the burners in hot water overnight. scrub with a wirebrush.poke a needle in all the openings & on the ones in the stove. dry thoroughly & see if it works.
if the ignition isn't clicking at all,one of the components in the electrical box might be broken.i wouldn't mess with gas or electric.call your gas & electric supplier or a repairman to find out what's wrong & see if it's worth fixing or not.

It could be something as simple as an improperly placed thermostatic sensing bulb. Those controls are pretty tough. Look for obstructions that would cause air restrictions and overheating. You've done all you can do then. Call the tech back back and get him to check or replace the aqua-stat.If it turns out to be ok them your limit may be weak and in need of replacement.

Rangemaster Disconnect the gas to move house

I dont know if your in the UK but if you do disconnect your gas feed the way MrMark has mentioned you will be breaking the law.. you'll need to be corgi registered to do it that way.

BUT.....

Again if you are in the UK, some gas supplies were fitted with a quick release system.

With this all you need to do is slide your cooker out, locate the connection at the wall, not the back of the stove.

Press down on the top of the connector and turn the pipe coming out about 1/4 of a turn and it will release and self seal the gas outlet.

Hi lisa not to sell cookers only to fix them , try asking for you money back or go to the small claims court for you money or send them a bill for the work needed to fix the gascooker , if they are a dealer in gas cookers them might not want to go down this road or there is the trade description act ,

lisa thats the best i can offer it will be a fight but the small claims court is there to help i used it twice when things where sold and where bad i won both times hope this helps ,paul

there should be a regulator on back of the stove where the gas line connects.you will see a plug that unscrews, remove this plug and run the unit.if this solves your problem clean the plug really good and put back on.

Oven heat

The problem with you oven is the FFD (flame faliure device ) also known as FSD (flame safety device) The way is works is that when an oven is ignited first time the heat from the low level flame heats phail at the end of the calliary tube which in turn increases the pressure within this tube forcing open the FSD valve to open allowing full gas through. when this fails it restricts the amount of gas flowing through it leaving the oven with a small flame. these are easily repalaced but the law says it must be done by a corgi registered engineer for gas safetey reasons...But 110 % that is your fault.
