    Hi

Same problem exactly when loading XP. Does seem to be RAM issue but strangely both ram cards appear ok when used in the slot that provides video RAM. XP loads OK.

However when the second RAM slot is used with either RAM card XP generates the same error message and won't load.

One RAM card is 128 the other 256. and both work fine provided only the video slot is used.

    Any thoughts?

Yes, it should run WinXP. The minimum system requirements to run both Windows XP Home and Professional are 233Mhz, 64Mb RAM and 1.5GB hard drive space. I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 that still runs XP, a little slow, but has run smoothly for 5 years.

The setupdd.sys error is most likely a due to a defective hardware like RAM. Try installing only one ram if you have two to see if either one is defective; it should work for most users.

You can try booting the computer in Safe Mode and login to the "Administrator" account, then go to Control Panel>User Accounts and reset the password from there. If this doesn't work you can try these steps: If you have Windows XP follow this guide - click hereFor Windows Vista/7 - click here

Goodluck!

Toshiba tecra M3 wont start. Upon startup it shows a black screen and says problem loading operating system

download form bootdisk.com "XP Boot" and burn to cd in an .iso (bootable) format.

boot from the cdrom (you may have to go into BIOS and look for a "boot priority" option to allow you to boot from cd, to acess BIOS, hit "escape" and then either "F1" or "F2" as soon as you turn it on). run fdisk /mbr from the XP Boot cd. with this tool, try to repair the mbr. if that does not work, you need to use this tool to erase the mbr and reinstall windows.

Try borrowing a compatible HDD instead of buying a third one for testing and check if the same error exists. Try also using an external DVD drive to see if your internal CD-ROM is defective. Try also using another Windows XP CD installer. You can also use other OS installation CD to check it. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your lappy's motherboard due to tear and wear, heat, vibration, misuse and shock.

I need install CD/RW-DVD Model GCC-4243N in Tecra 8100 PT810C-11C52, but in screen show error# IDE1 Bios is Version 2.10, maybe I need upgrade Bios?. The CD Rom old is an SD-C2302. Thank for your help,...

Yeah... that's common. The Toshiba DVD drives uses a different drive select than other people's DVD drives. Look to the manufacturer of your DVD/CDRW drive and look to see if there's a firmware update that will allow you to set the drive select differently. If not, then you'll be stuck with the IDE1 thing forever.

Now... here's the fun part: some of these drives will give you an IDE error, they'll never boot, but some of them will work perfectly when you get into Windows.

Your laptop is not new enough for winxp. There are no drivers for it.Im surprised that the BIOS let you install it.
I would try to use the win2000 drivers, they may work.
Sorry for the not so good news.

Please let me know how you make out.
