Hi, i hope that you can help me again as i have been here before about the above laptop. i recieved laptop with windows xp but was advised by the person i bought it off to install a legal copies of windows which my sister gave me and it messed the laptop up totally and i think i deleted all the drivers because cd was faulty and 98. So i came here and was sent to a site to get compaq drivers for windows 98 (new disc) which i have done, i have put them on a disc but when i try to install them it comes up with a black box that says ERROR:the drive you are unpacking to is write protected. and it says press enter and nothing. pleases help WHAT HAVE I DONE TO IT NOW.

Is your laptop booting normally before it suddenly stops booting from the HDD.If it is this case then you need to format the HDD with window xp, i suggest.reason being that window xp support USB automatically.
