Hard drive for Tower PC

Hi, I'm looking to replace the harddrive on my Gateway UATX Tower pc, but not sure what modern new harddrives would be compatible?
The machine is about 8 or 9 yrs old and currently runs a Quantum Fireball EX 6.4 harddrive
Any suggestions?

Hi I have a gateway tower about 7-9 years old. could you tell me how much a 60- 80 gig harddrive will cost and where I could get such an animal? I need to run a couple of programs and I don't have enough room.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Hardrive removal

Simple as pie... you will see the harddrive mounted horizontally in a small shelf after you tae the cover off. You have to unscrew the philips screws that hold it in the shelf and unplug the connectors. make sure you label the wires so you know which ones came from that harddrive... they is usually room for 2 harddrives and two complete sets of connectors, don't mix them up. (One is the master and the other called a slave.) There is an adapter for the harddrive that you should always keep should you need to replace the harddrive, (comes in two pieces on either side) the new ones don't come with the adapters to fit them in the case; they are bare bones. If you don't want to go through the gymnastics of taking the other tower apart and installing the 2nd harddrive in it to read it... an internal HDD adapter can be purchased from Tiger Direct for a nominal cost. I allows you plug you internal HDD into a USB socket in any PC (desktop or laptop) and read it as you would a Flashdrive.

Remove hard drive from tower case gateway 815 gm

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/4190/4190nv.shtml

Looking at the rear of the computer;
A) Two thumbscrews to loosen, then remove the Left Side Panel.

B) Two Philips head screws to remove for Right Side Panel.
(Designation of left/right Side Panels are looking from the Front, of the computer)

Pop the Front Cover off. WATCH the wires so they do NOT get disconnected from the motherboard!

Slide the right Side Panel back about an Inch, then lift out, and off.

Click on - Gateway Computer User Guide - in blue.

Now remove the 1 or 2 Philips head screws on the right side, that hold the Harddrive into the harddrive bay.

Gateway dx300 hard drive

Gateway DX300 Desktop PC is a series.

Could be a Gateway DX300MC, or DX300QS, or DX300S, or DX300X,

http://support.gateway.com/support/supinfo/index.asp?pg=2&file=DX300series.html

Fortunately all models in the series use a SATA harddrive.

[ Gateway DX300X Desktop PC used as an example,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/DX300/1008555/1008555nv.shtml

In the list click on - Components
On this page scroll down to the bold subheading - Harddrives

All models came with a Western Digital harddrive, but it doesn't matter what the harddrive manufacturer is, that you use ]

What size in GB amount? Depends on what you want. I myself wouldn't go more than 320GB.
That is because your anti-virus program has to sift through the harddrive.

The larger the harddrive, the longer it takes.

For more capacity, I would install a 1TB harddrive into an external enclosure, and use it connected to the computer, with it's USB cable.
(It will also come with an additional external power supply)

But that is just me.

Bear in mind that a new harddrive has no Operating System on it.
You have to purchase a genuine copy of Windows, and install it.
(This is if your harddrive presently on that Gateway is bad)

[ Microsoft makes one Master disk. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer ]

Need to replace my harddrive

Hi,

If your system is running under warranty. I suggest not to open the system. Just take the system to manufacture support center they will replace it without any cost.

But make sure you have the bill copy and warranty document with you.

If it is already over just unscrew the cabinet and remove the replace the new disk with new one.
