Whirlpool Microwave Oven GH9185XLB1

While the oven is unattended, it oven would have numbers appear on the control panel. Sometimes, it would just start by itself. I was able to stop the automatic start by locking it electronically, however, it would beep intermittently as fi someone is pushing the controls. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. The oven is a built-in type so the outlet is not easily accessible. However, I was able to disconnect and reconnect the power. So far, the problem has not recurred. If problem, will recur, I will know which part to replace. Thanks for a great advice.

I have a Whirlpool Microwave Model GH9185XLB-1 that cycles for about 10 seconds and then displays (E7) in the display. Prior to this I could smell an aluminum burn type smell and I thought that it may have been something placed inside, but it was not. What do you think that this could be?

You may have a bad control board. Have you tried unplugging the oven and then reapplying poqwer afterwards? Manytimes , when elcetronic control logic gets corrupt, a power down/up reset clears the problem. If it continues, I would consider replacing the control board..Here is a link to the circuit board you might consider replacing.. http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=1059895&PPStack=1

These kind of things are generally trial and error and there is no guarantee that this will be the solution to your specific problem..

Hope this helps...

You likely have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

I wish you has posted the full model number from the tag on or in the unit so I could have given you part numbers and tips.
Chances are you will have to replace the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new keypad already installed.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

I have a that microwave gh7208xrs that shows a error code F7 HVSMPS feedback

The controller is not getting the high voltage switched-mode power supply feedback signal.

Sometimes this is due to a defect on the HVSMPS (inverter) or a bad connection from the HVSMPS to the controller.

Due to the voltages involved, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person attempt to troubleshoot an inverter.

In the event that you or someone you know wants to look into it, see these safety warnings first.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

It tells you this:

F7 Power to magnetron interrupted
1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
2. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.
3. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
4. Check cooling fan operation
5. Check the magnetron.
6. Check P65 connection on the relay control board.
7. Check the P56/P66 connection between relay board and relay control
board.
8. Check wiring to the 1200W inverter and control system. See "Checking
Inverters."
9. Check operation of all interlock switches.
10. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
11. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
12. Check voltage at 4903-1 on relay board. If it is 120, unplug microwave
oven or disconnect power.
13. Replace inverter.
14. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
15. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
16. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
17. Replace relay control board.
18. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
19. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
20. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
21. Check for reversed plug connection on controls or loose wiring.
22. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
23. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

I'd suspect 6 through 8 first.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Whirlpool typically supplies a service sheet with schematics for servicing the oven. This is normally located in the compartment where the micro control board is and requires you to removes it to acess it. These service sheets have fault codes and causes on them.

If you are inexperienced at working with electronics I suggest replacing the unit as the cost to have the unit serviced will likely exceed the cost of a new unit.

Good Luck

Whirlpool microwave hood combination has code f2 on touch panel. Model number: MH-1150xm

The F2 error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

On these models, usually the membrane keypad is not available separately, so you would have to order and replace the control panel frame which comes with a new keypad (sometimes called "panl-cntrl").

The part availability and cost will depend on the full model number from the tag on the unit, and it will be one of these:

MH1150XMB0
MH1150XMB1
MH1150XMB2
MH1150XMB3
MH1150XMB4
MH1150XMQ0
MH1150XMQ1
MH1150XMQ2
MH1150XMQ3
MH1150XMQ4
MH1150XMS0
MH1150XMS1
MH1150XMS2
MH1150XMS3
MH1150XMS4
MH1150XMT0
MH1150XMT1
MH1150XMT2
MH1150XMT3
MH1150XMT4

You can order the part and find helpful exploded view diagrams here.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

What does f2 mean?

F2 on a Kitchenaid / Whirlpool / Maytag microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

On some models, the keypad is available separately.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

On other models, the keypad
is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It all depends on the model number.

Microwave external underside light no longer works

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights fan can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

In some Whirlpool models, there are more than one fuse, and two or more thermal devices which can interrupt power to the oven.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
