Try this, I saw this on a u-tube vid, and i can't believe it worked. Turn on unit until the red light flashes and the error code(E 73) shows up on the screen. Next insert toothpicks in the back of the console(while unit is running) into the cooling fans, this is to suppose to overheat the console and start two red lights flashing. Turn off console when this happens(unplug all cords from console) and turn the system back on. Like I said it worked for my system and I hope it works for all of yours out there.
Please don't use solution number 2 its a temporary fix and will ruin your system. If you don't know how to open your system then you might aswell send it in, its cause by an internal issue and can be fixed doing a few things, they are not easy to do on your own. if its under warranty send it in if not find a repair company ConsoleMD is awesome and they have low prices they fixed mine with an e72 error
Another solution is to check your connection from your ethernet cord from your computer to your xbox and make sure it is ok and then if it is your ethernet input is broke and needs to be repaired and if your cord is broke just buy a new one my xbox just did that today 05/04/09
With the X-Clamp fix this is due to the fact that the gpu is undergoing stress (overheating) when you apply PROPER thermal paste/grease and new bolts from X-CLAMP FIX it will return your xbox to normal or even better than new because micro$oft decided to use cheap paste that dries up and causes poor connect between the heatsync and GPU.. RRoD is the result of the CPU or both same problem. im not a person that advertises that product im just a normal person that had the same error i used arctic cooling 5 its probably the best if not one of the best.

If you get the Xbox 360 1 red light message, it means that the problem is either with the DVD drive, or with the hard drive.
Fortunately, the Xbox 360 1 red light message is not something that you should worry about. In order to identify which of the two drives the Xbox 360 1 red light messages is referring to, just look the code number that the screen displays. DVD drive errors are identified with the codes E64, E65 and E66, whereas hard drive errors are identified with codes E67, E69 and E79.
Once you identify which error the Xbox 360 1 red light message is pointing to, fixing it is really easy. The guide available at Fix-xbox360.info will tell you what to do in each case, as well as what to do in case you get any of the other Xbox 360 lights messages. Check it out.
When turning on the Xbox 360, a red light would be flashing at the
fouth section of the Ring of Light. You should then recieve a ghost
screen indicating an error E 73.
You recieve a screen error E 73 and section 4 of the
RoL flashing red. This type of error was caused by a General Hardware
Error relating to the Ethernet Port not functioning correctly or became
faulty and unable to operate even with or without an Ethernet Cable
connected to this port. The secondary code would be identified as 1021
for faulty ethernet port. I believe that there is no fix at the moment.
If you encounter this error, I would suggest call 1-800-4MY-XBOX or
The specific type of hardware error can be determined by these hidden codes: 0001, 0002, 0003, 0010, 0011, 0012, 0013, 0020,0021,0022,0023, 0030, 0031,0032,0033, 0100,0101,0102,0103,0110,0200, 0203, 1000,1001, 1002,1003, 1010,1011,1012,1013,1020,1021,1022,1023,1030,1031,1032,1033,1100,1444 and up

Note: There is known to be a temporary fix for this problem
but is not recommended if the device still has available warranty on it.
Doing so will avoid it's warranty, thus for you will pay $100 if sent
The Sticks Method:
Requirements: Xbox 360 (Power Cable and Composite/Component/HDMI Cable), two sticks (Like toothpicks, swabs)
1.) Turn off your Xbox 360 and unplug everthing.
2.) Get two sticks (Something like toothpicks or something that could fit in the back of the Xbox 360.
3.) Insert each stick to jam the two fans at the back of the Xbox 360 to prevent it from spinning.
4.) Plug back cables (Power and Cable connecting to TV; the RRoD will not appear unless the cable to the TV is connected).
5.) When RRoD appears (One Red Light), wait for about 10 to 15 minutes or maybe less for the Xbox 360 to overheat.
6.) At this point, you should get two red lights (Resembles Overheating
Error) so remove the two sticks so that the fans will spin in an
increased speed. After a few seconds, the Xbox 360 will turn off to cool
down (RRoD will still appear).
7.) Unplug only the cable connected to the TV. You can unplug the power
cord if you want to. Then let it cool for about 30 minutes or so (Feel
the Xbox 360 if it's cool or still warm)
8.) Replug all wires and turn your Xbox 360 on.
The Xbox 360 should now be able to boot to your Xbox Dashboard. I don't
know how this fix works but it's only temporary. Note that doing this
continually would cause it to now work even if you try to redo this fix
again and again. Doing so would make other hardware components to fail
permanently such as the GPU for example.
If this first temporary fix did not work, do the
second method: The Towel Trick. You can find the tutorials in Youtube.
Again, this is not recommended if you have warranty left and never do
this continually. Your Xbox 360 would completely and permanently fail
after that. if it doesnt help after all this....I suggest sending it to Microsoft for repairs
https://www.yousendit.com/download/THE2b3BORkUrV3lGa1E9PQ. hope this helps its two ebooks on how to repair red light error ,full instution plus pics show u how.this download is only there for 7 days or 100 downloads.DT
FYI. the 3yr extended warranty only applies for the 3RED LIGHTS and E74 issues only..if the console is already in the service center, you dont have to worry anymore, microsoft technicians will surely work hard to get it fixed. just wait 2-3weeks for the whole repair process, and you& your son will enjoy playing xbox in no time. :-)
Sometimes the easiest way is the fastest way.The signal reset button (the little one to the left of the power button) is also the unofficial reset button for the Xbox 360. With the Xbox turn off, press this button and keep pressing it while you press the power button. Do not release the reset button until you see the system booting up normally. Of course, if there is a permanent or a more serious damage to the system, it won’t work or the error will be recurrent until it is solved. Resetting just clears the error from memory.
