Every time I load a disc, it automatically starts playing the disk rather than going to the menu, in addition, once the disc starts to play FT NG appears on the screen & the remote control will only work once, once I press fast forward it will not stop & I have to unplug the powersupply from the back to free it up.
Any solutions out there???

- Thanks Silly Girl,
I will try that & let you know. I am between houses at the moment but will be back in the UK next weekend.
There are DVD players that have a feature that automatically skips the menu and plays the largest title on the disc (typically the movie). It's usually not an advertised feature.
maybe pressing "play mode" on the remote can fix that.
Since you're having more problems, it will probably take more then disabling that feature, or you might be looking at 2 separate issues.
What happens if you take the battery out of the remote? does that stop it? and what happens when you press FF on the player itself? this should tell you if the problem is specificaly with the remote, or with the player itself.
Best thing to do though is use the warranty if its still valid, or consult the shop on repair options.
Good luck

No, this isn't a problem with the player. Every other player I have that plays DVD's recorded with the Samsung all auto-play. The problem is with the Samsung and how it records DVD's.

I have had this model converted to be all-region Bought some BBC DVDs that were Region 1 (US market) - these have Closed Captions (CC) problem is that the Panasonic FAQs for CC do not seem to line up with my recorder .. the FAQs state : "
2 . How can the Closed Captions be set on the unit?
To set Closed Captioning (CC) on this model you will need to press the
Functions button, select Other Functions, select Setup, select Channel, arrow
right and select Closed Captions. Once Closed Captions is selected, can select
the type of captioning desired thru the various on-screen options. I do not get the same sequence beyond Functions>Other>Setup There is no 'Channel' showing in the list on the screen... can anyone tell me if this description works for them? Would a Firmware update (i.e UB-217) solve this problem?

I bought the above DVD recorder 9 months ago - the idea was to keep ahead of the demise of VCRs. Since then I have copied scores of VCR-based material onto DVDs with no problems. ..until I tried to play a DVD on the pc via the PowerDVD software - it does not work. I read the manual and found some reference to 'finalising' the DVD before it can be used on other players..only to find that the DVD Management section of the Function Menu does not display 'Finalise' ... The local Panasonic dealer tells me that I am using the wrong DVDs - despite him selling them to me in the first place.. these are Panasonic DVD-RAM (non-cartridge 3x speed) - the proferred solutions are (1) record all the VHS again - onto the 'right' DVD (2) buy a new DVD player with a hard drive..copy the DVDs to HD then burn them onto the 'right' DVD Option (1) is no good as I no longer have the VHS's and (2) is unrealistic - a cost of £280 for a new unit. I've asked PowerDVD for a solution but they need to know the file format that is used when the Panasonic recorder burns the DVD .. if I place the DVD into the pc DVD reader there is nothing shown - no title, no evidence of the programme on the DVD (even though it is certainly there). Is there a cost-effective solution to this problem? What is the file format type that Panasonic-burnt DVDs use? Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi everybody, I have a s47 here in Brazil. Well, Panasonic don't have any assistence for this product here. The problema is that I never use it( I bought it in "Paraguay" but it cames with this problem), the door don't open...the message "open" apear in the display but... Neither assitence here was capable of fix it! They said Panasonic from Brazil don't have assistence for this model! I Think it's related with the internal mechanism of the door... Will I have some solution?? My e-mail is albertowdc@ig.com.br Thank you all, Best regards, Alberto.
