Why can't people phone my phone please

  • Verizon ??
  • Dial *228 and push "Send" to complete the call to the activation service. A screen will appear over the call timer that says "Programming in Progress..." and you should hear a voice recording say, "Welcome to Verizon Wireless Over-The-Air Programming."
  • Press 1 for initial programming. This option is used if the phone has been deactivated or is being activated for the first time.
  • Press 2 to update roaming information and to download a free software upgrade to enable better roaming coverage. Pressing 2 and choosing this option will assign your phone to another tower that should enable better reception, especially when roaming

Lost the manual need to reprogram the phone

  • Have you ever received a phone from a relative, friend or just upgraded to a new phone and don't have the time or patience to call into a call center for support with activating the device or updating the PRL (Preferred Roaming List)? We all know the hold times can be long, the representatives may not be as helpful as we would like them to be or of course the wrong line gets changed causing a previously working phone to stop working (we all love that). And of course a simple 5-10 minute call has now turned into a 30 minute call (as if you had no plans to go to dinner or watch some T.V.). Well here are steps you can follow to program, update your PRL or process an ESN change with your new or new to you VZW (Verizon Wireless) phone. If the device you acquired is brand new or new to you and the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) has not been changed on the MDN (your phone number) you simply need to power off the old phone and on the new phone dial *228 and select option 3 when prompted. This option processes the ESN change automatically, programs the number into the phone and updates the PRL.

  • 2

If the ESN change has already been processed you simply need to dial *228 and select option 1 to program your phone.

  • 3

Lastly if you just need to update the PRL then dial *228 and select option 2. The PRL (Preferred Roaming List) update will ensure your phone is roaming on the tower that provides the best signal, potentially enhancing your service.

That's it! You are now ready to use your new phone!

I DON'T know what is initial programming is?

initial programming occurs when your phone needs a second roaming based and if you accidentally change the NAM settings of your phone to NAM2. the default NAM settings of your phone is NAM1.

Initial Programming Needed on Samsung Renown with Verizon

Verizon customer service isn't always very helpful, but the verizon website can be. Try clicking phones&devices under the support section. Once you select what type of phone you have, you will see that it says "activate phone" on the left side of the page. This will guide you through the activation of your phone, and the instructions are pretty clear. Hope this helps.

    Initial programming needed.

Call your service provider to have it reprogrammed.
This means maybe someone deleted the basic programing features of your phone like phone number. or the system ID got bumped by a software error. or it could be that the phone just got flashed. i know the code to program the phone but if you don't know about internal programing it will do more damage than good. since it will kill your phone if any wrong settings is applied.
Best bet is to have your service provider tell you the programing code and settings to be changed. because they will be telling you over the phone what to do.
