Try deleting the upper and lower filters...use the regedit command to access the registry...

My cd drive does not recognise cds

Okay. First of all is it a cd drive in your computer as opposed to a DVD drive? If you put a dvd into a cd drive it cannot recognize the dvd. A dvd drive can recognize a cd, but a cd drive cannot recognise a dvd.

Does your computer actually recognize the drive as being present?
If the drive isn't recognized by the computer try:

power off the laptop
Physically remove the cd or dvd drive
power -up the laptop without the cd/dvd drive
power off the latop and refit the dvd/cd drive
power it up again and see if the drive is
recognized

If the drive IS recognized by the laptop but won't play any disk it's probably the drive itself at fault. You can try gently cleaning the inside of the drive - the optic that reads the disk. However, the usual cause is failure of that optic which read the disk information. It cannot be repaired.

The alternative to fitting a new drive is to buy a portable dvd drive. They connect via a usb cable. Have a look on Ebay

My Philips dvdr 3450H if i insert a origial dvd says (not supported disk type) HDD work correct only won t read dvd what can i do? thank you

Hi,
You are not alone...Some DVD players especially Philips wont read the DVD s and
then it show no disc..
Just to make sure that such DVD is ok ,you can try to run them on your laptop.If the disc has problem laptop does not read either..
HDD works independently and no relation to DVD reader..if your set has still under warranty ,consult to service they may replace the LASER EYE.. ("cross your finger ! " )...

Just in case,quick remedy ,I recommend to buy a "wet DVD/CD laser cleaner " from any store.it is available even in Walmart..And clean the laser eye at least twice..
YOUR DVD itself should be clean and finger prints free as well....
Hope this helps! Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me

Will not recognise cdr when inserted.Disk loads on my other laptop

The hardware of your CD/DVD drive has failed. Either replace it, or "network" your two computers together, to "share" the working CD/DVD drive across your network.

I have a Philips Freevents X57 Laptop which has a motherboard problem. When I switch the laptop "ON" these are the following symtoms: A) Power Charger in AC/DC Socket without battery: Power...

Possibilities:
* leaking/bad capacitors on the motherboard, not doing their job, i.e., causing voltage fluctuations that the motherboard cannot tolerate;
* dead disk-drive -- cannot boot Windows from a "dead" drive;
* dead CPU -- cannot do anything other than power on/off;
* failing power-supply -- not supplying correct voltages to the motherboard.

Take the laptop to a qualified computer technician, for professional trouble-shooting, and probably a replacement of the motherboard. But, it might be less expensive to "salvage" the disk-drive (and your files) from the laptop, and to buy a new laptop, than it would be to buy a replacement motherboard, and pay for installation.

My Samsung laptop model no. is R418. When I insert any disk in the DVD drive, and double click on it it shows a blank screen without any files. It is recognising the cds and also running the auto play but...

You typically get a read error from the operation system if there is a problem reading the disk, so it is likely that the DVD really is blank. Try gently washing and drying (with soft tissue not heat) the DVD. Then try another computer. If it reads the data, the burn a new DVD.

Unable to burn DVD

Its purely the DVD fault.
Try using a different brand dvd disk.

Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820 does not recognise burned CD or DVDs

it could be upper and lower filters in registry and system files, use a removal tool called filtercheck 4.6 in CDR-zone.com (goto the forums and search for filtercheck)
after you downoad, run it, click yes to all filters found to remove. close program.

reinstall your preferred burning app (1 prog installed at a time and test burn)
this is to replace the filter entry that was corrupt
