There are no sharp areas in the drum and cannot see any damage to the holes

  • inmankb Sep 09, 2008

is it possible that clothes are sucked into the holes during drying? I can't think of any other way it would be damaging the clothes. And if so, what is the solution?

  • inmankb Sep 09, 2008

    More advice please

Several things spring to mind... what material is she washing....
how is she washing it.... bleach will burn holes in clothes and perhaps that is something you need to check on.

some materials are just not meant to be put in a dryer and when you do they usually require a special cycle.

the cool down cycle may not be working on the dryer if that model has one.

oh and one of my favourite from experience. if her husband works in the automotive trade he may have splashed battery acid on his clothes. the holes don't show up till after they are washed and other materials end up with holes... you wouldn't closely examine washed clothes ... just toss them in the dryer

Hey it depend upon quality of cloth...i think all of ur cloth are not gettin damaged at a time...mostly this ll happen due to suction by a dryer...it may also cause due to inbetween gap in ur drum..

tis can be solved by using dryer with very little amount of clothes and also avoid clothes with pins inside dryer

You need to check that you are not washing items on wash programmes with a final spin speed that’s too fast for them.

Different manufacturers and different models of washing machine may vary but this chart shows that certain items should not be spun at full spin speed –

  • Cottons: 1400 rpm
  • Minimum iron: 1200 rpm
  • Delicates: 600 rpm
  • Woollens: 1200 rpm
  • Silks: 400 rpm
  • Shirts: 600 rpm
  • Denim: 900 rpm

Other possible causes of holesBra wire (or underwires)
Other obstructions in the tub, a damaged drum, loose drum lifter etc.
Buy drum lifter or drum paddle
Zips and buckles
Biological detergents could damage wollens and silks
Bleach

Hope this initial info, helps you in your problem..

Any further assitance, let me know.

Regards,
micro-

If clothes are old then there is a chance that the clothes can get torn while getting sucked in the drum spaces while spinning...otherwise..it has to be problem with the spin drum...

Holes will be when they get stuck when the dryer is still turning most especially if it is getting stuck between the inner and outer drums check to see if there is any wobble in the inner drum by opening the door and placing your hand at the top of the outer rim of the panel and place your fingers to the top of the inner drum pull your fingers towards your hand if there is any movement other than the bearings are gone which will need replacing once done then this will solve the problem if there is no movement check to see if there is a seal missing from between the inner and outer drum u can check this out using your fingers .

Dryer cant do that - have the washer checked OR a possibility that they have very sharp *blings* on their clothes when they washed them

Why is my hotpoint tcm570 tumble dryer leaving a puddle on the floor

Since no dryer I am aware of uses any liquid, I suggest you may be putting wet clothes into the dryer.
This can happen if the washer does not spin the clothes nearly dry. Many dryers have small holes in the dryer drum to let excess water flow out, I would guess that may be the case with yours.
Are your clothes nearly dry when they come out of the washer?
If not, perhaps the washer has a loose belt or has a problem with the "dry" cycle.
God bless your efforts.

Why is the metal screen with round holes located in my dryer drum melting some clothes and leaving its impression on those clothes. My appliance is a Frigidaire gas dryer model # LAQG7011KBO.

The metal screen is the place where the heat from the dryer enters the drum. If the dryer is melting items, you have one of two possible issues:
  • The dryer thermostats are allowing the dryer to get too hot.
  • You are drying delicate clothes on too high of a heat setting.

Get a new dryer. Old ones tend to tear-up clothes and burn holes.

Holes in clothes

I'd bet the holes are the same size as the holes in the dryer tumbler. the only thing I can think of is that your dryer isn't tumbling and the heat that is pushed through the holes is burning your clothes.

Holes in Clothes

You'll need a drill with a wire brush attachment and take that to the front of the heating element. The heating element gets a lot of crud built up on it and yes it'll put holes on clothes.
