The set suddenly shut down and left only the power light blinking. The remote wouldn't turn it on or off. I unplugged for 10 minutes. It came up with a very dark picture and garish colors. A few more turn ons and offs and color/tint set to minimize red, it still has a magenta overall cast and magenta smearing from bright areas. Degaussing doesn't help.

The blinking LED is the Fault code for your set. Its shutting itself down into protection mode to stop from further damaging itself. Kinda like a fail safety. My fix instruction differ for rear projection than that of PDP or LCD but its the same. Just a dif set up inside the set.
its very possible that the blue CRT is horting the set out. Heres how you can test it. Remove the speaker grille and access panel behind the grille and you will see the crts. remove the blue crt circuit board from the end of the blue crt and make sure it isnt touching anything then try powering up the set if it doesnt shut down then you have found the problem and you will need a new crt. or you can switch the blue circuit with the green and try it iwth the blue on green and the green on the blue then if the screen turns green before shutting down you will know that its a problem in the blue drive circuit and not the crt. lety me know if you need further assistance.
The 46H84 has 3 CRTs instead of a lamp. Red, Green and Blue. Your red CRT is shorting out shutting down the set. Here is how you test that theory. Remove the speaker grille, there will be an access panel behind the grille remove that and you will see the CRTs red is usually on the left. hit the power momentarally to locate which tube is red. then power down and unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the tubes Circuit board. ( you may have to carefully slice the glob of silicone applied at the factory to get the circuit board off) Once you have the circuit board off the Red CRT make sure it isnt touching anything and try powering up the set. If the set stays on and the other 2 CRTs light up. That tells you the RED crt is shorted and thats whats shutting your set down. Let me know if I can assist you further.
The constant blinking green light means that the TV is not booting up. This is a common problem on this set.You need to remove the shield from the DM board (standing upright on the left where the DTV RF connector is)and inside you will see the four leaky capacitors (1000 MFD 16 VOLT)replace them, plug the TV in and wait 70 seconds for the blinking light to stop, then turn on the TV.The hard part will be removing the board from the TV(lots of screws and connectors, takes time)
You could have gotten an electrical surge that put your set into a shutdown condition and unplugging the set and letting the Microprocessor reset will fix this problem if it dosent blow out the main power regulator as you still or might I say have a regulator IC problem. IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN MORE THEN A FEW TIMES WITHIN A SMALL TIME FRAME I WOULD HAVE THE SET LOOKED AT BEFORE THE REGULAOR BLOWS SOMETHING OUT!!!!
