Virus or did I mess?

Hi. A friend of mine had something that looked like a virus on her laptop. I scanned the hard disk many times but only found some spyware. The pc did not boot at all displaying only f9 & f10 options.i set the bios to defaults with the same result, each time the pc started, it hung with some garble display scrolling vertical or horizontal lines + some VB script alongside the screen. I tried to update the bios via a USB key, it only did 43% before it stopped. Now i don't even have a display:(. Power on, led keeps flashing left of the caps lock key, pc seems to start but nothing appears! Thanks for helping... I'll send you a card from my tropical island Mauritius. Thierry

That would be a video card issue which means that you need to buy a new video card for your computer.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first and then bootup the laptop. The Windows image will automatically divert to the external monitor.
If the images is OK then the video card is OK.
From the description of the fault, it indicates that the fault could be a faulty video cable or video connector. Try reseating the video cable/connector on the motherboard.
Get back to me if you still have problems together with any error messages etc.

My laptop has several viruses and cant connect to internet to download anti-virus software

First you need to remove virus from your laptop.
A safe way to remove virus is to use a bootable antivirus CD (containing the latest definitions) to scan the drive. Alternatively, you can attach the drive to a friend's computer that has an antivirus installed (with the latest updates) and perform a full disk scan.

Hi there, your external hard disk may be infected by virus.Firstly, remove the virus with anti-virus software in your computer. Then you can recover your files from hard disk with third party data recovery software.I have succeed to recover files from hard disk with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard disk to look for lost data.
By the way,you can download a trial version and scan your hard disk for free to preview whether your files can be recovered. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm

My friend has a Dell laptop 1545 that says she has a virus. It will not let her sign on to internet, load a disk or anything? What is the best way to clear this out? I am trying to find a solution online...

If the Sell does not have a virus program installed and she cannot get on to the Internet to use a WEB based virus scanning program, or install a virus program for a CD then the only alternative is to use the Dell Re-installation CD or Recovery CD and wipe/format the hard disk and re-install Windows again..

Connection for virused harddrive to fully protected hardrive

If you examine the hard disk you should see on the labels the jumper positions for setting it to slave. You will then need to attach the slave disk to the power and data cables inside your friend's computer.

Virus

If your computer is an HP there is an option at the startup to do a system restore.  Press one of the function keys, to get to it.  Next select "Destructive Recovery" this will reset the entire computer back to when it came to you straight from the factory.  If you do not have that option, try using the system restore by going START, PROGRAMS. ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, and select system restore.  9 out of 10 times this will cause the virus to roll back on its self, hence destroying any trace of it.  Best Regards COMPUTA FIXA
