Hi. A friend of mine had something that looked like a virus on her laptop.
I scanned the hard disk many times but only found some spyware. The pc did not boot at all displaying only f9 & f10 options.i set the bios to defaults with the same result, each time the pc started, it hung with some garble display scrolling vertical or horizontal lines + some VB script alongside the screen.
I tried to update the bios via a USB key, it only did 43% before it stopped.
Now i don't even have a display:(.
Power on, led keeps flashing left of the caps lock key, pc seems to start but nothing appears!
Thanks for helping...
I'll send you a card from my tropical island Mauritius.

Normally computers today have a recovery partition or a recovery disc. you will need one of these to boot the computer up and recover or repair the computer. most of the time its easier to just pull out the hard drive attach it to a working computer carefully copy the files they want or need and make sure to virus scan them and then just do a fresh install of windows on it with a virus protection program as well.
do not let them into or anywhere near your laptop try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f this should schedule to happen on reboot which will scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or click startcontrol panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart then you should test or replace all leads make sure they are securely seated and are not bad/faulty that are attached to your(((motherboard to your hard drive)) defragment your hard drive will speed up your computer scroll to the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click you can select task manager applications also processes you will see whats running on your computer you might have virus slowing your computer also select users you will see who is using your computer hope this helps
Sound like your cable that connects your burner to the motherboard. Try another cable, if you want to try another trouble shoot item, try connecting it behind the hard drive. Before you do set the jumper setting to slave on the burner and hook it up. That will help you to elimate a channel.
A Virus Would Corrupt or remove/Change drivers.
You need to remove The Virus.
You should then remove The DVD Drive Manually from The Machine.
Start the Computer without The Drive, then power Off the Computer.
re-install the Drive, boot up and Hopefully it should be detected in ( found new Hardware ) if not, go to add new hardware wizard, and see if it,s detected there. A Virus Can Actually lock-Off a Drive.
My Toshiba lap top when i try and copy pictures to a disc it will not let me it says D:/is not accessable.incorrect function
I also tried downloading pictures from a cd and it would not read it though it did read a pdf file for documents on another disc
