Question about Mitsubishi WS-65908 TV

Mitsubishi prjection screen WS-65908

I have a 65" Mitsubishi TV. The screen started to look out of focus and the color was off. At the bottom of the screen it has an ark or a curve look to it. It used to happen once in a while and clear up on it's own. Now it stays that way most of the time. I tried to adjust the convergence with no luck. The convergence would only adjust left and right not top and bottom.

I have the same problem. Tom, how old is your tv? I believe I got mine in '01. Does the picture seem almost distorted along the left and right edges?

    I have a similar problem. Mine was probably '02 or '03, I haven't looked.

Having repaired televisions loooong ago, I'm leaning towards a voltage regulator. Mitsu used to have problems with cold solder-joints that would finally fail years later - don't know if that's still true, but it's a long time here.

    My specific symptoms are:

When first turned on, the picture would pin-cushion (pull in in the arc you describe) and be horribly out of convergence (R/G/B distinguishable). After a "few" minutes, it would stabilize and pop back into convergence and the pin-cushion wouldn't be noticable. Now, several months later, I'm getting no power-on at all. Fuse is good, power is good to the transformer. I haven't pulled the board out and pushed any further - those huge flybacks make me nervous. ;)

If this were 20-25 years ago, I'd say for sure it's behaving like a bad regulator. Looking at the boards in this unit - they look like 20-25 year old tech...

I'm actually searching for a schematic since there's clearly more than one regulator on the power board.

If I figure it out, I'll post back.

    Thanks!

    --- Jodie

You have a convergence problem, all this sets show this problem sooner or later, you have 2 or 3 amps for the red, green blue colors and this amps go bad and need to be replaced then you have to do a convergence aligment from the service mode and not form the customer controls,a qualified tech should be able to correct the problem since is a common one.

You lost your convergence IC's and possibly a resister or two that are in the same circuit. If you are good at Soldering, this should be somewhat of an easy fix. I believe you can still get the IC's for this set.

I have a Mitsubishi WS-55807 and the colors started to separate - you can reset it by turning if off and on again and it goes away but in time returns, starts getting blury then the colors split up - just...

In your On Screen Display menu (OSD), you should have a place that says "convergence". As a sub heading to this it will say "Auto-Convergence". This is where you want to be! Hit OK under AUTO, and watch the magic happen! If your set happens NOT to have AUTO, you'll have to do it manually. You're going to make the lines all match up doing one color at a time until all three colors are done! It's not hard at all. It may take a little patience at first, but just think of all the money your saving by not having a TV tech come out to your house and you'll be fine!
