There are clips in the front side. pry slowly the top cover and what ever is holding it, use a screwdriver to push it a little bit to release the clip.

the top cover can now be lifted towards the back.

How do I remove the top of a Frigidaire dryer - model GLEQ642AS2

I will include the instructions for replacing the belt, it will include the top removal and also a link that you can click on the see the belt routing.
http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belt-config.JPG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, unplug the dryer. Lift the lint-screen cover and pull out the lint screen
If your dryer has a lint screen on the inside of the door, skip this step.
Then remove the two screws that are under the cover. To unlatch the dryer top,
insert a thin-blade putty knife between the top and front panel,
about 2 1/2 in. in from one corner. Push in on the knife to release the locking
clip, lift the corner, then release the clip on the other side. Swing the top
up and lean it against the wall.
Next, move to the lower toe panel. Slip the putty knife between the lower panel
and the door panel at one side and twist the knife to release the clip
Then release the opposite clip and lift the panel up and off the hinge springs.
To support the dryer drum while the belt is being replaced, place scrap wood
under the front of the drum.
Loosen the two screws at each side of the bottom of the front panel.
Move to the top of the panel and remove the screws from the inside of the
cabinet that hold the front panel to the sides.
Slide the old belt off the drum.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the belt
Lean the front panel out slightly and allow the drum to rest on the scrap wood
support. Drop the new dryer belt between the front panel and the drum, and
loop it over the drum. Then, lift the drum slightly while pushing the front
panel back into position.
Replace the screws at the top inside of the front panel, tighten the lower panel
screws and remove the scrap wood from under the drum. Check to make sure that
the rear drum seal fits properly over the lip on the rear bulkhead.
Position the new belt where the old belt was, with the grooved side of the belt
facing down.
Now, move to the motor area and pull out the old belt. To route the new belt
around the idler and drive pulley, first pass the entire belt, doubled up,
under the idler pulley. Then, push the idler belt toward the motor, slip the
belt around the motor pulley and release the tension on the idler pulley.

Open the dryer door and rotate the drum counterclockwise a few times to make
sure the belt is tracking properly. Lower the top and press down at each
corner to engage the clips. Lift the lint-screen cover, replace the two screws
and reinstall the lint screen. Finally, secure the lower front panel and turn
on the dryer for a test.

I am trying to replace the dryer belt. I cannot for the life of me seem to figure out how to get the top OR front panel off. Thanks for the help.

If you hear a loud bang while your dryer is working, and you notice that the
drum has stopped turning, chances are the drivebelt has snapped.
Fortunately, replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward operation that
can be handled with a few simple tools.

Unplug the dryer. Using a one inch paint scraper you can locate the two spring loaded clips holding the top in place. They are located about one inch in from the top corner of the cabnet between the cabnet and the top. Depress the clips one at a time lifting on the corner of the top, tilt the top back and rest it on the wall.Inside the dryer cabnet looking down you will see two screws, one on each side holding the front panel to the cabnet. Remove the screws and tilt the front panel forward. Mark and remove the wires going to the lid switch. Remove the front panel. Remove and discard the old belt. Slide the new belt over the drum with the grooves on the belt facing the drum. Reassembe the front panel of the dryer and replace the wires onto the door switch. Replace the two screws on the front panel. Reach into the rear access panel and grasp the belt. Pinch the belt and feed it under the pully of the belt tentioner. Pull the belt tentioner towards the motor pulley and slide the pinched part of the belt over the motor pulley.
Replace the inspection panel on the rear of the dryer.
Lower the top and press down to lock it into place and your done.

How do you replace a belt on model 11060622990

Unplug the dryer.
Remove the lint filter.
Remove the 2 screws at the lint filter opening.
Use a putty knife between the top lid and the front panel to release the clips.
They are about 2 inches in from right and left sides where the top meets the front panel.
Lift the lid towards the rear of the dryer.
Look inside the top right and left corners of the front panel and remove the screws holding the front to the cabinet. Remove the door switch wires and set the door aside.
Place the new belt over the drum, ribbed side towards the drum.
Look under the drum for the belt tensioner. It is S shaped with a wheel on it.
Place the base of the tensioner in the slots below the motor pulley.
Feed the right side of the belt through the opening under the wheel with the smooth side of the belt touching the wheel.
Place this side of the belt over the motor pulley with the ribbed side touching the pulley.
Replace the front panel.
Hook up the door switch wires.
Replace the panel screws.
Reattach the top lid and lint filter screws. Replace the lint filter.
Plug in the dryer.

How do I get the back off my dryer to replace the belt Model #MDE9806AYW

no no no no need to take the back off, you just need to pop the top off, you should have clips on the left and right from the front inbetween the front panel and top, once you pop top up, on the left and right there are 5/16 th bolts that hold front to panel, take out 2 bolts and install belt around idler pulley and drum

BELT REPLACEMENT

Take off the front kick plate (bottom panel) then remove the front panel. The top panel will be attached to the front panel by some plastic push in retainers you can loosen with a screwdriver. The belt will go around the drum on top to a drive wheel at the bottom of the machine. you will have to slip the belt around the drum in the front or back of the drum to get it around it.

Replacing Belt on Jenn Air CLothes dryer

1. Disconnect power
2.Use Putty knife and push in to release two spring catches between top and front panel about 3 inches from either side. Top then lifts up. Undo two hex screws on either side of side panels close to top. Front panel then tilts forward. Un-clip door switch and wiring harness before lifting off front panel. If belt is broken, drum should lift off by slowly raising front of drum to disengage wheels at rear of drum.
3. clean accumulated lint from inside fan housing and duct work on front panel as well as from total inside of dryer base before placing new belt around drum, smooth side up before carefully replacing drum in place to engage two wheels at rear of drum.
4. reaching left hand under drum, raise spring loaded idler arm and place ribbed side of belt around pulley on end of motor with right hand before releasing idler arm to provide tension on belt.
5. Place front panel on bottom clips and reengage door switch wiring harness before reattaching hex screws at top of side panels.
6. drop top pannel of unit in place to reengage spring clips before reconnecting power
