Thank you for your response. The stain that I have is nothing like the pictures that you have posted. It is more like a smokie water stain.

That is probably liquid inside the LCD, only way to fix it is by replacing LCD display.

If LCD brakes inside, or receive a shock, it will develope a typical stain from liquid leaking inside the liquid cristal display panel.

This kind of fault can only be fixed by repladcing the LCD panel, that is usually an expensive part.

This kind of stains can stay roughly of the same size or get bigger as time goes. See if the stain is stationary, or is increasing in side, you will notice on next weeks or months.

Look below to see some example of LCD liquid stains.

If the display is still under warranty, and there is no evidence of an external damage it will be covered. Call the number listed on the owner manual if you want to get repair service.

If the stain is completely black, then is a liquid cristal stain, just a variation an theme of the one in the pictures.

If you can see throught the stain, and you see picture behind, it can be the panel placed on top of the LCD screen surface, that has humidity inside. The panel is necessary to avoid polarization phoenomena and must be replaced. If the stain looks like a shadow on top of the picture, and it moves or change shape in time, then it is a polarization problem. If it is static , it is panel dirty or damaged.

The LCD screen it is also backlighted by a lamp, if picture is just dimmer in a corner, it can also a lamp problem.

I think it is more than a Kool-Aid stain. likely it was some kind of heat applied to the screen causing physical damage. How does it appear when the screen is white?

Apple iMac 24" Screen issue

you are not alone. its not that hard to clean. really you need the cloth that came with the screen...most people throw it out. and all you do is dab it with a bit of water and gently massage the screen. and it looks as good as new. if you dont still have the cloth use a very silky delicate piece of cloth. if it is underneath the screen (very unlikely) take it back to the shop you baught it for and if it is an apple store then they will most probably clean it for free.
also do the stains look like the are on the inside or outside? and, do they move at all?
if you took a picture of your screen and posted it on here. i will be able to give you a better idea on how to.. fix ya

Screen has faint "water mark" looking images on both sides of picture

Then the only possibilitiy at this point is the LCD panel having some kind of defect in it. Since you flipped the picture and no change it is a permanent mark or failure. Check to see if you have any warranty left as this will be an expensive part if needed. They do list a diffusion sheet part number PSHEP0288CEZZ that will probably be the first layer of the screen assembly.

Shadow down right side of screen on a toshiba 44NHM84 44" DLP television

shadows at the bottom of the screen sound like moisture that was "wicked up" between the screen layers and dryed out leaving a stain. DO NOT get these screens wet, use nothing but a damp soft cloth; just a few drops of water running down the screen can cause a fairly large stain. Some people have suggested that they may be professionally cleaned, but the risk of damage is too great on the user level.
