I have the identical problem - also began after a recent utility power failure. Unit plugged in to surge suppressor. Tried the recommended steps - got the "semi-reset" message on the 2410 screen, but solution did not solve the problem. Symptoms still exist.

Try the steps mentioned bellow

Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet when there is still power in the All-In-One. and wait for atleast 1Min
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. (if possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)

Then check and see

Good Luck

My printer keeps trying to start a scan at start up. The power on green light never becomes a solid green and the hour glass icon is what is on the screen. Makes awful grinding noise. Try reconnecting and...

If it's the scanner bar "clicking" after start-up thats the problem then see ;

Concensus seems to be that the scanner is trying to find "home" and it can't see it because something is in the way. Combination of cleaning the glass and/or the lighting unit/mirrors may help. Worked for me.

Hp 2410 just clicking

When you power on the printer.
See if the scanner light move to the right and then keep on clicking.
If this happen, the scanner head is unable to find home position.
You will have to clean the strip under the glass.
If this only start to happen recently, you could unplug the printer and wait 1 hour.
Replug in the printer will at times stop the clicking.
You can go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com
Enter c00553775 into the search block.
Click on Hp All in one how to clean scanner glass.
This will bring you to the HP document.

Printer won't print, makes clicking noise, on/off light flashing

This method should put you on a fresh footing.

1. Go to start button when programs appears see if you can find your printer in the list, see if it has an uninstall program.
2. If not: Go to start click on printers and faxes.
3. Delete the printer giving you a tough time.
4. Reinstall using your installation CD.
That should work.

Printer not booting up after power lose.

Hi guys. I had the same problem, but looked at this thread. I guess mine was related to the power, because when I moved my plug from a power strip to a wall outlet, it worked fine.

Noise on my printer HP psc 2410

I have experienced this problem numerous times since owning theprinter, and usually a full reset (# and 9 on power-up) has resolvedit. Not this time, however! Following Guest's advice above, I visitedwww.fixyourownprinter.com and found the solution: cleaning the glass. Thank you, Guest!

Printer makes clicking noise

Make sure the printer is not out if ink. When the light flashes this may be the case. Also check the print queue. If it contains pending print jobs and there is no paper the light will flash. Here is how to check print queue: Click Start > click priters and faxes > double click printer icon and see if there is something ... If you see any print jobs delete them right away. and restart your computer. This should solve your problem.
