Question about Protron PLTV-32 Television

Pltv-32c black horizontal curved line like sagging seal on top of screen

Has anyone seen this? What is it? Can I fix it? I took the tv back cover off but decided not to go further until I hear from someone more experienced with this tv. I'll never buy an off brand again even if the picture quality is best for the price.

My Protron 32' has a droopy dust seal at the top of the screen that is getting lower. I took it apart until I got to the screen assembly and decided to look for a professional answer.

there is not really a "fix" for that besides buying and installing a new lcd panel. you have bad pixels. unless someone took the tv apart before this happend. then its probably a plug not inserted in all the way for the lcd

Tip

TV shows either: black screen with: white vertical or, horizontal line

If Your screen shows a: white vertical line on a black screen or, a white horizontal line on a black screen:
Your TV vertical or, horizontal power transistor or, chip is getting too hot.
A vertical line indicates the horizontal circuit is at fault, a horizontal line indicates the vertical circuit is at fault.
To troubleshoot: Turn on your TV untill the line shows then: after about a minute, remove power (unplug) the TV, remove the TV back cover, find the too hot transistor or, chip; using component coolant; spray the too hot component with the component cooler until the screen comes back to normal. To fix: apply white coolant cream to the back of the too hot transistor or, chip. or, if there is room, a small fan can be wired in to cool the part. Radioshack sells the cream and, also a "component cooler spray" that should find and, fix this problem, also; with power removed you can, if you feel it is safe; carefully (with only one hand) feel the part; it will be very hot! (it could burn your finger!) Do not touch anything else! (this will not hurt the tv; when the picture comes back on (the offending part has cooled) you have found the problem part.

We own a proton pltv-32c. the image coming in is larger than our screen (or the ratio is off). Basically the top and bottom of all images are being cut off (same for TV and video watching). What to do?

Check the FORMAT option in the OSD (on screen display) menu. It may need to change.
It's on page 15 of the User's Manual.

Format

Controls the picture format. The options are 4:3 and Full

(16:9-widescreen).

Or you could reset the tv by using the All Reset button on the menu.

All Reset

Resets all options to factory-default settings.
See page 23 of the User's Manual.

You can get a user manual from;

If you do not have Adobe Reader to read the manual you can get it from;

Xbox360 has sound but no picture

Hi,

If you look up further on this thread i HAD the same problem. This is how i fixed it. I needed it to red ring so i could send it back in to get replaced since my 1 year warranty was up. But i fixed it instead. So here is how you do it. First i took off my hard drive on the 360. Then i plugged it to the TV not with HDTV (use the red, yellow and white make sure it is on TV not HDTV) i only say this because i didn't use the HDTV setting to fix it. then i plugged it into the wall with the 360 laying down not up and down and turned it on. (no picture but sound) with the 360 on i took 1 towel folded it long ways and wrapped it around my 360 from back to front (make sure you cover the fans in the back to make it over heat.) leave your 360 on until it red rings (you can hear the 360 quit down. it takes about 15-30 minutes depending on how fast it over heats. once this happens unwrap the 360 and turn it off wait 5 secs and power it back on and there you go you should have picture and sound again. mine has been working for 3 days now with no problem i even have it hooked up using the HDTV cables in my living room. if this don't help you now you have a red ringed 360 and you can send it in to get repaired since there is a 3 year warranty for red ringed 360's.

Good Luck!!

Thanks!!

I have a problem with my PS3 System. When I turn

You can try two things easily:

While the PS3 is off (solid red led) hold down the power button until you hear the SECOND beep, quickly release.

If that doesn't work try it again with the hard drive removed from the PS3.

If neither suggestion solves your issue you can try hooking the PS3 up with different cables ( a/v or hdmi) but I have NEVER seen cables go bad, but still Sony suggests you try.

More than likely the issue you are experiencing is related to the GPU on the motherboard.

There is a DIY approach to fixing it but I suggest sending into Sony for a solid repair.

You can contact SONY @ 1-800-345-SONY

Hope this info helps.

There is a problem with the power supply in your TV. The regulator switch is causing teh clicking sound you hear. In order to fix it, you will need to replace the power supply. This is done by taking off the back cover of the TV, locating the power supply which is usually a yellow board that will have many high voltage capicators on it and replacing it with a new one.

White Horizontal Lines @ the top of my 32" Sharp Black Box TV

This Problem is usually caused by Leaky Capacitors in Vertical deflection circuit.
If you are handy with electronics,
Get a can of FREEZE Aerosol.
Open the Back Cover.
Put a mirror in front of TV.
Locate the Vertical Circuit.
Turn the TV on.
Spray FREEZE on top of individual Capacitor to see if it corrects the problem.
If it does, Replace that Capacitor.

Air filter keep popping on screen and shut off after 1 minute.

I had the same problem with my Panasonic tv, just 3 days after a technician came out to fix "fuzzy spots" which were multi colored, but mostly green spots. I really thought that the technician was in some way responsible, but Panasonic insisted that there was no possible way he was. It was going to cost $240.00 for him to come out to clean the air filter, and both the technician and Panasonic insisted that I couldn't do it myself. I had decided to buy a new tv to cut my losses. My boyfriend talked me into trying to fix it, we are both sort of mechanically inclined, and it was going in the trash anyway.
We took the back and top off the tv. It took some looking, but we finally found the filter, just over the projector. We removed the cover, it has to be done from the back of the tv, it is black and held on by 4 small screws, be careful not to drop them into the tv, we dropped one, but it shook out. We vacuumed the filter really well, and vacuumed around everywhere. We put the tv back together, not expecting it to work, but thinking at least we tried. It works great. It has only been a few days, but it seems like the problem has been solved.
Good luck if you decide to try. I have decided not to put another penny into the tv.
