Question about ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard

1 Answer

Fpanel Hi, I have removed all leads in the front panel control part of the motherboard in order to switch a hard disk drive. I thought I could remember how to put them back but now I cannot start up the computer. Please could you tell me which colours go where? I have the online manual available but it is meaningless to me since I don't know which cables control which parts of the front panel. Thanks.

Hi, the most common case colored wires used for negative - is white. The colors blue, red, green are usually positive +. The internal speaker though it uses a 4 pin connector only plugs onto the 2 end pins. Black is connected to negative - pin & Red is connected to + positive pin. Go to page 1-26 & zoom in. The case's connectors should be marked closely like the on-line manual. All these case LED's use 5volts DC. If you make a boo-boo (place the connector on back-wards, don't freak out). You can usually shut down the system & turn the connector 180 & re-connect it with out hurting the board. I know it’s a tight fit, so start with the power switch & test it once connected.
You should be just fine.

Good luck unreal_class!

Where can i connect the power sw connector to the f panel pci express

The cable coming from the power button on the front/top of the case would plug into FPanel port. Not sure where you are seeing sata 2 but that's for hard drives and roms. Check your motherboard manual or download one from the manufactures website to be sure on where you need to connect this.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

I have a gigabyte ga 81865gme775 mother board, can you give me the front pannel connection details

hello jknr09

my name is ausi

i can not find your motherboard on gigabyte web site. however the boards nowadays are standard as far as front panel header goes.

on gigabyte mother board you will see the hedae as two rows of pins like this.

....
..... ....

the bottom row first 4 pins are the speaker pins. the next single pin is void the next two are reset switch. the last two are hard disk lead.
the top row first two pins are message lead (usually not used). the next two pins are power switch exactly opposite the reset switch.

the power lead connection on gigabyte boards are a three pin header next to the front panel header.

hopefully this is helpful.
please vote for me

It has a front lcd temp indicator and a bunch of wires to connect to the mother board. I have no manual and I am confused

If you can describe the problem by listing the wore colours and any lettering on them, I might be able to help. Also the motherboard you are trying to connect to as I need to find out the Fpanel pinout

To help you initially.

1.) Wires that are grouped in a series of Red Green white and black are commonly the USB connectors which will go to the uSB headers.

2.) Black and white wire coupled together as a 2 pin is usually the power switch which goes to the Fpanel header

3.) Any wires that appear to be fused in a plastic type sheath are sensor wires.

I'd first try tracing the source of the wires and see where they lead on the front panel, note these down and repost

FPANEL CONNECTION

Front panel connection are the power on, power led, reset and hard disk drive led. Makes sure all those connections are properly set up or else you will not get your computer on. If your motherboard is color coded then it will be much easier for you on how to that. Just follow the instructions using the motherboard manual on how to connect properly those connections. Else if you are not sure, I recommend you get a qualified person who can do that for you.

Hope this could be valuable information for you..:-) Thanks..

FITTING MOTHERBOARD

If you have not removed the old motherboard from the case, then you can identify the various front panel connectors as you disconnect them and label them. Some front panel connectors have labels printed on the connectors which makes it easy for you to identify its purpose. If you have already removed the old motherboard then you will need to trace each of the leads to the front panel to see what they are connected to (eg. the LEDs and switches etc).
You will also need to identify on the new motherboard the various connectors for each function, eg power LED, hard drive LED, reset switch, power on switch, internal speaker etc. If you are lucky It may be printed on the motherboard, if not you will need to refer to the manual.
NOTE the LEDs are polarity sensitive, if the LED does not light, then swap the connector around the other way.
