I have a Sony Bravia TV and recently, in the top lefthand corner of the screen, signs have appeared. One just says AV1 the other is a screen shaped motif with an arrow entering from the left and the no. 1
I cannot find any way of getting rid of them.

The fault is with its main power supply regulator section itself. One or more voltage rail is missing. Your TV need a through checkup. Seek tech assistance.
Your connections might be loose and the tv is constantly recognizing the connection over and over, that would explain the pop up. I would imagine the picture would be distorted somehow if that was the case but worth a try. If the problem persists after trying a good new cable then I would call the manufacture.
Please try this:
With your remote set on AV1, push the input button and try to change the input using the up and down arrows. You want to set it on cable or whatever your TV input normally says. I have Satellite TV and mine says satellite. You should be able to easily change it with the input button. If you can't do it, change the setting on your remote to TV and then try the same procedure. The Sony Bravia has manual controls on top of the set as well. If you are unable to change your input using the remote, try the manual controls, however, your remote does need to be reset for the correct setting as well. Using the manual controls will just help you check to see if there is actually a problem with your TV. Is this a new TV, new problem?Have you changed batteries in your remote recently?
I hope this helps you. If not get back to me, and let me know.
Thank you for using FixYa.
All you need to do is press the TV/VIDEO button in the top left corner of your remote. Each time you press, it will cycle through the connected external inputs, e.g. AV1, AV2, etc.
