Antennas Uniden Bearcat BC148XLT

Are there any high powered antennas that will work with this scanner? I live in a semi-remote area and would like to pick up some municipal signals. Thanks.

Height and placement of the antenna determines range. Also, check to see you have the antenna perpendicular to the ground (straight up), and place the antenna where it has 19" clear around it. (not up against a wall or other obstruction)

Placing the existing antenna higher, or replacing it with an external antenna would give you more range. A simple test before purchasing a new connector, coax and antenna for the scanner, would be to place the scanner where you think you would place an antenna and see if it gives you the range you desire.

External antennas are available from most any radio shop. (They would need to know what type of connector you need to connect the coax to the back of the unit.)

The antennas on GMR radios are typically not replaceable. This is by design, to prevent users from installing antennas (or external amplifiers!) at a higher location (as in, base station), which could cause interference over a wide area.

I have a uniden bearcat hand held scanner sportcat, which for some reason has lost its memory, is there any way to program it

You didn't specify the model number of your scanner, so here's a link to a list of available Uniden scanner manuals. If your model number is listed, just click on the "Product Details" column to download/print the manual. It will provide detailed programming instructions.

I inherited a uniden bearcat BC147xlt! How do I

I was unable to locate a manual, but this is a basic 16-channel scanner, and the frequency coverage is probably listed on the ID plate. To program, turn the scanner ON and use the MANUAL button to stop scanning and to advance the scanner to the channel that you want to program. Enter the frequency that you want to program, including the decimal, then push the E (Enter) key. Use the MANUAL key to advance to the next channel, and program as above.

Alot of static very little talking

Check you antenna on the scanner. You are describing loss of signal to the scanner. It could be the antenna, the antenna connector, the scanner its self.
Check everything over, Try a better antenna.
