Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

1 Answer

Hp dv2000 hp says the problem occurs with amd based computers. my research on forums says that its linked to a bad bios, or bad mother board, or bad gpu (nvidia). symptoms include: blank screen w/ indicator lights on, wireless connection problems....hp support put out a warranty enhancement, but it looks as if customers w customized laptops dont get service (like me). on further inquiry i found that theyre only servicing amd based products because they received a significant amount of problems with them. i guess they havent documented many cases w intel based products, so please do ur part by contacting them.

Trust me...they have scads of input from me. Blank screens with indicators lit is a fault that HP tries to ignore and many of those end up on EBay as 'laptop for parts only'. Spilt drinks on the keyboard cause damage to the rectified power circuits and can be rescued if they are powered down immediately with the battery removed and internally cleaned. HP and Dell are very good at providing service manuals for remove/replace procedures, though the detailed circuit schematics are rare and so troubleshooting to component-level is not easy. Steve

How to upgrade bios

If you're talking about flashing the BIOS on the mother board, you must go to the website for your specific mother board or brand of computer. Go to the Dell site for a Dell, HP site for an HP computer and so on. The site will ask you to identify your specific computer. Then you'll be able to get a list of drivers, upgrades and BIOS updates that may be available for your computer. Note: Flashing the BIOS is not to be undertaken lightly as this can kill a mother board if something goes wrong.

RE-INSTALLATION PROBLEM

it doesn't seem to be cpu. have you tried to update bios? download usb bootable latest version of your bios and give it a shoot. if it does not help, try use external cd drive to reinstall os. press f9 at startup and choose usb hard drive. oh, one more thing-this may be memory corrupt, but not likely. test it in the bios.

Is there a bios update link ?

Here is the BIOS Link courtesy of HP:

WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with AMD Processors) - Microsoft Windows/Vista-Based

Click on that link and then click on the download only button. Save it to a location that you will remember and then after its done downloading, double-click on the file and it will update the BIOS for you.

Bio password for hp dv2000

Ain't Google wonderful !

I found this on the internet about clearing your HP BIOS password. You download a file called "unlock6.zip" from the following url location, using the Free User tab (click on Free User to start download). This is a zip file with a word document and the .exe file. This is how it says to use it:

How to Use:

If the notebook you are servicing has an unknown password, follow these steps to clear the password. These steps also clear CMOS:

1. Enter an incorrect password and press enter.
2. Repeat Step 1 two times.
After the third entry of the incorrect password, the notebook responds with a "system Disabled" message and provides an override password.
3. On working computer, access MS/DOS by clicking Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
4. Change directories to C:\Swsetup\Unlock6
5. Enter "unlock6 xxxxx 0", where "xxxxx" is the password generated by the notebook in Step 2.
The notebook responds with another system-generated password.
This password can be used to unlock the notebook and reset the password.
*Detailed usage and support information can be found by reviewing the included “readme.txt” file.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
