I close out my laptop by putting it to sleep. I never sign out. But whenever I go to mail It wants me sign in. Why? The is why I have to sign in. even if I never sign out. Just close laptop lid.

Hi.
That's your laptop's way to protect your info when you send your laptop to sleep it logs out to prevent someone(not you) to open and use your information. Anyway you can change that in the energy configuration depending on the model of your laptop.

I heard there was a sleep button. Is this true? And if so, where is it?

in control panel, > Hardware and Sound > Power options > System settings you can set up what your computer will do after you push power button...... you can set up sleep and your problem is solved

it's in Windows 7////... other OS are pretty much same...

Maybe the little sensor or pin that sticks up and is pushed in when you close the lid is broken and the software doesn't realize the lid has been closed.

Did you used other pc or laptop? If you used another pc or laptop, it is normal to ask you again about your username and password unless you will select the option whenever you will sign in the "log me in for 2 weeks etc".

Computer goes into sleep mode when you first sign on

START - CONTROL PANEL - POWER OPTIONS -    POWER  SCHEMES. Ajust times.
If this is not hrte problem then go into the BIOS setup screen and turn off the BIOS power managment.
