Question about JVC GR-DF450 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
When I turn the camera on I get a message "lens cap" The lens cap is not on the camera, the message goes away and I get no image through the view finder or on the lcd monitor. I can still view video previously shot and menus etc.
JVC has acknowledged a fault on their side that will cause certain models to display the "lens cap" error, and they offer free repairs, unfortunately your model isn't on the list. You still might get some consideration, since there are plenty of models from the GR-D series listed. Here's a link to the JVC site : http://www.jvc.com/support/notification/index.jsp?pageID=2 You're not alone though, it's a very common problem also with models that are not listed by JVC. I only heard of complaints by people that JVC refused to help, but it won't hurt trying, maybe they'll give in to public pressure eventually. Good luck

I had a similar problem and someone recommended the following solution (which sounds a little odd, but it worked). Use a hard object (screwdriver, key, etc) and lightly tap the top of the camcorder just behind the lens. It worked on my device.

Had the same problem with my JVC GR-X5. After contacting repair centers with no joy I decided as a last resort to tap firmly with a screwdriver and hey presto it worked. Thanks for the post!

I have the model JVC GZ-MG27U. It aslo gave me the lens cap error. When I called "Customer Service" (Yeah,,they serviced me,, only I had to bend over to get it). They asked me if the IRIS was open. After Looking into the lens with a bright flashlight I could seea small Triangle. The Iris was stuck in the middle while opening. Which is why when you nag it with a screw driver it fixes it. JVC Recommended I contact a Repair Center. I recommended they contact a Proctologist. I am going to get my hammer now and try the fix. Good Luck!!

I saw a solution to this problem posted in another thread, as I was having the same problem with JVC GZ-MG40. Try tapping the top of the camcorder, about 1 inch back from the lens with the tip of a screwdriver or something else hard (key, coin, etc). It worked for me. Now I just have to wait and see how long the solution holds for.

I got the same problem with my jvc mini dv. No picture on screen & sign saying 'lenscap' when the lenscap is off. Only used it 6 times ! It appears jvc have no interest in 'customer satisfaction' or 'quality control' when they clearly know about this 'common problem' and refuse to rectify it. I hope the general public wake-up to the fact they are being 'ripped-off' by jvc and refuse to buy the brand. thereby jvc will go bust and won't be able to rip-off anyone else.

Same problem I've got and some repairing shops asking from 200 $ up to 300$ without any warranty.JVC support does not want to understand the problem. So, I'd recommend to those buyer who wants to buy JVC to change their choice.

try removeing the battery and then trying again,
The device might need a reset
but it sounds like a hardware side problem witch would need to get repaired.
if you still have warranty then that should save you.
if you dont have warranty id recommend you contact your dealer, or a local professional, there is a repair service finder in the front page of fixya under the top experts.
If you need more assistance let me know, I'm here to help
