The monitor display is completely vertical on start up. Is there a setting that adjusts this? I was unable to find anything in the control panel to do this--Yes the monitor is sitting upright--it has worked in the past. HP computer and monitor--

If you mean that your screen display became narrower, then there are usually buttons on the screen to fix this, among other adjustments of the screen. the setting you're looking for has a two way arrow going horizontally through the middle of an icon representing the screen. In case i'm misunderstanding your problem, or this does not help, you can also try to let the screen rest for a while(at least 30 minutes), and turn it back on, to allow it to degauss. Good luck

My Samsung n120 screen is displaying only vertically - how do I go back to horiz display?

Computer users occasionally have a need to rotate, or "flip," a monitor display to be better able to read long documents or to view pictures. Because rotating a computer screen is such a basic function, modern operating systems (Windows XP and up) include hot keys and display options that enable the user to rotate the computer screen by 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Rotating the computer screen allows for more display options. For instance, when rotated 90 degrees, a 1680x1050 monitor becomes a 1050x1680 monitor, which provides more vertical pixels than a standard display.

Windows XP/Vista Monitor Orientation
Minimize any windows or programs to the taskbar. Click the desktop. Press "CTRL" + "ALT" at the same time. Press one of the arrow keys to flip the monitor orientation by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The left arrow rotates the computer screen 90 degrees; the down arrow rotates the computer screen 180 degrees; the right arrow rotates the computer screen 270 degrees; the up arrow resets the monitor orientation. Rotate the computer screen in Windows Vista by opening the Control Panel, searching for "Tablet PC" and changing the "Orientation" drop box to the desired rotation. b> Windows 7 Monitor Orientation b> Click the Start menu at the lower-left hand part of the screen, and open the Control Panel. Select "Display," then click "Change display settings" from the left column. When using multiple monitors, select the monitor that you would like to rotate. Click the drop box next to the "Orientation:" option. Select the desired rotation and click "Apply." Click "Keep Changes" or "Revert," depending on preference. Click "Apply" in the Display Settings window. Click "OK" to finish.

Did you set ur resolution screen setting higher than 1024 in ur computer panel resosulion setting?Yes than that is ur problems right there.CRT monitors modes are based on old technologies ,CRT monitors can't go up more than 1024 resolution setting.Setting resolution more than 1024 resolution for CRT models monitors will have thesse causes. The screen resolution on the screen will shrink and get smaller or will not have video resolution on the CRT monitors screens at all.Only LCD or LED monitors models can support and go higher than 1024 resolution setting has none of these causes.Time to upgrade for a new monitors technologies like LCD or LED monitors models.

If you have a 3D monitor, good luck, otherwise, tap the buttons on your monitor that say menu, etc... there's horizontal and vertical adjustments in your monitor. If it's software, then go to your display settings and re-adjust.

Look for "buttons" on the bottom-front or bottom-edge of the monitor.

One button will activate the OSD ("On Screen Display). Through the OSD, you can change the "vertical size" and "vertical position" of the display.

Most likely the refresh rate in your display settings is set to high
lust right click on an empty spot on your desktop and click "properties" from the drop down menu or go to control panel / display and once you are in the display settings window click the "settings" tab on top then click "advanced" then "monitor" and make sure it is set to "60hz" (some monitors go higher but 60 is safe for just about all of them then click apply and see if the problem goes away

If it is already set to "60hz" then there might be a problem with your monitor itself
or it could be a monitor setting like "trapezoid" setting but not many monitors have this setting and it would be rare for it to get accidentally changed but just in case you could always try to go into the monitor settings menu and look for "reset" or "restore" function and if your able to reset it and it still has the same problem then it is probably your monitor is giving out and time to replace it

NOTE: the above solution is based on the assumption that you are using Windows XP with a CRT type monitor (not flat panel or LCD)
