Black & Decker TCM700 Coffee Maker problem (by 3 users)

posted by MWitter on Mar 11, 2006

I just bought a Black & Decker TCM700 Coffee Maker, and it worked fine for 2 weeks. Now, the lights & digital readout work, but it will not heat the water either on "Brew" or "Auto-On".

Q: How can I diagnose the problem & fix it? Thanks!
I have the same problem.

Sometimes there are no thermal resistors (thermal fuses) just the cutoff switch. Make sure there is contact between the switch and the outside of the heating tube. There should be some di-electric grease or heat sink grease in between where they contact each other. That small amount of grease helps in heat transfer.

the concept still applies. the heating element is usually dual functional. heating the water then keeping the plate warm.

the link http://home.howstuffworks.com/coffee-mak... is to a picture of the thermal cutoffs connecting to the heating element.

On the thermal cutoff in very small print will be the rating.

Goodmans is very inexpensive. You can get several delivered to you for less than $5. I know, I've done it.

All coffe makers have a thermal cutoff fuse located on the bottom heating plate. It is usually in series with one of the leads to the actual heater. This should read "short" with an ohm meter. If it is "open" it needs replacement. They are rated in Degrees celsius, and are sometimes difficult to find. Black and Decker may be able to send you one.
