My tv says "line" and the screen is black, but when i try to use the channel buttons to move up or down, nothing happens. i have also tried to hook up my cable wite to the tv and nothing happens. i don't see a button where i can adjust the set up (on the actual tv as i don't have a remote) what should i do to make the tv work again (or to get into the set up options to try to fix it?)
I found the problem, if you dont have a remote. look under the 2 buttons used for the VCR portion of the tv set. it says "action" press both buttons at the same time and your menu will come up , and you can program everything and set the set back to the TV part versus the "LINE" in setting.. hooray for me !!! holla @ firstname.lastname@example.org if you need more help

Re: my tv says "line" and channels won't work
"line" means the TV is set to recieve signal from an external source.
To check this try and connect an external source to the TV and see if you get a picture. That way at least you'll get some use out of the TV.
You could try getting another remote from ebay, or ask a shop that sells pana TV's for advice on how to get one that will work with yours.
Good luck, wish there was more i could do...

Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv original remote to used.U will used the tv original remote to turn to channel 3 with ease. After u have the tv original remote push the menu button go into Closed Captioning functions turn off like TEXT 1,2,3...The big black box will not appear on the screen again.Tv used it manually control buttons up and down channels trying to get to channel 3.U will never get it to tv channel 3 because tv channel 3 was not save on it memory list of on the tv turn manually channels buttons programming memory.Tv have a manual button said MEMU button on it tv front bazel frame?Yes.Might could used the Menu button on the tv frame to get in to turn off TEXT 1,2,3...to stop the big black box to show up on the tv screen again.
I found the solution on mine. To restate, I just saw a thin white border around a black screen. Pressing the channel up or down buttons changed the screen, in some kind of test mode to shades of gray, and red, green, and blue. I started finding a solution when I noticed when on one of the color screens, that the volume up or down buttons brought up a new menu for color intensity. Finally, I got back to the thin white border screen and pressed the arrow keys in the top half of the remote. Finally a TV screen and I pressed the enter key! Voila!
Here is how to try and get them back if they are available. On the original TV remote do the following- 1. Press the MENU button 2. Use the channel down button to select channel set 3. Select channel add/delete 4. Press volume up 5. Select channel you want to add by using the channel up/down buttons on remote. 6. When you get to the channel you want use the Volume up button and the color of the channel number should become either blue or green if it is added and it will be red if it is deleted. 7. Repeat until you have added all the channels you feel you are missing. 8. Press MENU button to exit. If the channels are still available this should get them to return. If not contact you cable provider to see if they have moved some of their channels recently or check their web site for the current channel line up.
This is a result of poor conversion of a SD signal on a HD channel. Go into your settings and adjust the h/v settings to move the line off the screen. You can do this with a combination of v-position or vsize.
some tv's default to channel 2 after being unplugged.since it is a older tv ,the buttons on the remote and the tv maybe worn down.on the tv itself try pushing the buttons down a liitle harder. if you have aux or line in/video inputs, scroll down on the channel button to log into a aux channel for the dvd player.as for the remote try buying a cheap universal remote to see if that works.
Had the same problem, channels would not stop scrolling.
It was as though someone had there finger on the channel up button.
Disconnected the sixth wire, starting with the black wire on the wiring harness for the front buttons, on/off, ch. up/down, vol. up/down, etc.
It works fine, no more unwanted channel surfing!!
Unfortanatly, your gonna need the original remote or a simular one to get to the channel programming mode in the menu. You can go to http://remotes.com or call 1-800-remotes and get one for your set. Im sorry i couldnt assist you more. Good Luck
