Ok... if using winxp press ctrl, alt and delete keys together to bring up task manager select processes tab and find out in the cpu column what program is using high number (percentage) in cpu column. That is the program that is causing it, if you don't know what the program is by the name of file let me know and will be happy to further assist you.

also.....if you are using vista press ctrl, alt and delete together and select task manager....then follow the same instructions as above.

cheers.

    Name: adobe photo downloader
    Filename: apdproxy.exe

This is a valid program but it is not required to run on startup.

This program is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources.

To disable this tool below is really easy to use and can stop this program from running at startup.

Windows Startup inspector, click the link below,

    http://www.windowsstartup.com/isw2.exe

There's a good chance you have a trijan, assuming you have an antivirs programme, run it in safe mode (F8 on startup and enter using safe mode), use the administrator account to log into windows, and then go to my computer icon, right click>properties>system restore tab, then turn off system restore.(viruses and trojans have a back up in system restore)

Run anti virus programme, restart pc then turn system restore back on

If you don't have an anti virus/spyware you can get a free download with free updates here, (choose the avg free download)

CPU usage 100%

This is due to memory and program usage.
Depending on your computers specs. try these steps
1. Disk clean and defrag
2. Virus, spyware, malware, Trojan, rocket scan and removal
3. Registry cleaner and optimizer
4. Check disc space on the C: drive
5. Turn off unnessasery programs auto starting

If this does not work it maybe that you need to upgrade your computer or add some extra RAM.

Cpu usage 100

Usually a CPU running at or near 100% means you have to many running processes. Have you added any hardware? Memory? Still using Windows XP? There are some tips to speed up Win XP: http://www.wikihow.com/Speed-up-a-Windows-XP-Computer Do you do regular Maintenance? Clean the junk from your machine. Try 2 freeware programs to get you started. 1, CCLEANER: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Use the cleaner and registry to remove the junk and free up HDD space, select TOOLS, STARTUP section, disable ALL unnecessary startup programs, this will speed up starts ant running. 2, MALWAREBYTES: http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the install, UNCHECK the Trial Pro version, you want the freeware version. Run a Full Scan, delete ALL results, reboot. That should get you started.

What can I do about cpu reading 100%

Check what programs are taking up the most CPU resources, i.e. invoke the Windows Task Manager (use Ctrl + Shift + Escape or Ctrl + Alt + Delete, or simply right click on the Task Bar and select the option).

Look on the Processes page tab and click on the CPU column heading to order the usage by the maximum to minimum, then watch to see what is taking the most resources.

Boot your PC into "Safe Mode" (tapping the F8 key on boot to get to the option) and run a full/complete Virus scan with Anti Virus with up to date virus definitions and see what that yields.

Dell Dimension 8250 PC running Windows XP SP2 has CPU always at 100%

I guess it could be a virus, avast is not the best antivirus in my opinion, try to get a norton antivirus or NOD32 update it and run the scan, it ocuurs when a replicating virus copies files to all your HDD and is always busy...making system busy...and one more thing there could easily be a copy of the virus in your pen drive as well...
