Need to do system restore from safe mode on thinkpad t41

When you begin to boot the system Tap the F8 key. This will give you several options for booting Windows in different modes. Select Safe Mode and boot the system.
Once in safe mode begin system restore by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Follow the steps in the System Restore Wizard

3 series of 4 beeps on ibm thinkpad t41

The closest diagnostic code that matches what you're saying is the 4 (continuous beeping). This is a video module failure or system board failure. The T41 does not have a separate video module which indicates system board failure.
If you can locate a T41 with a good system board on eBay for less than $50 then you could attempt a repair on the system. Otherwise the system is dead and its cost is greater than its value.

My IBM T41 make beep sound and turns off itself. What is happening?

You can try the steps below.
Try removing the battery and plugin the charger and try turning on.
Do you see any thing displayed on your screen when you switch on?
Please mention the beep pattern, 2 beeps or continuous beep.
Hope this helps. Good Luck

IBM thinkpad T41 -> get

Hi,

The IBM Thinkpad has a very strong security system.

If you are seeing a lock symbol when booting then somebody has set the supervisor password. If you can't remember it or guess it (try "password", "admin", "pass", etc) then you need to find the person that set the supervisor password.

Once the supervisor password is set the T41 is very well protected and it can't be reset by removing the laptop battery or CMOS battery.

There is a way to read the password from the protection chip but this is very complicated and requires taking the laptop apart and building your own chip reader.

The instructions for doing this are are:

Hope this helps,

Chris

One long two short beep? Sounds like the common Video issue. You can try the reflow method. Look it up on yourtube or you can get the reflow guide from www.msbin.com

No wireless adapter found in XP on ThinkPad T41

Hi,
Boot your laptop into windows. Go here to IBM Lenovo support and download the Cisco Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter driver >>>>>>>

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42683.html

Once downloaded just execute the file as it is an .exe file, you will the wireless icon appear in the system tray (bottom right of the screen).

Regards.

My ThinkPad keeps freezing

I had the EXACT same problem with my T41. Mine issues were caused by overheating from too much dust/dirt inside. I took it completely apart, blew it all out with a compressed air, and reapplied thermal compaund to the processor/fan...works like a charm now. Definitely start there...it cost $4 for a can of air and $6 for thermal compound and about 45 minutes of my time. It's better than spending a bunch of time and money replacing components.
